help me buy a monitor!

we live in a smallish 2-bedroom apartment, so i didn't think i'd need a baby monitor. LO sleeps in our room with us at night right now, but takes naps in his crib across the apartment. he has to get to a full-on cry before i can hear him, so now i wish i had bought one!

i really don't want to spend a lot of money, like under $75 would be ideal and i really don't need a video monitor. i just need to be able to hear when he is fussing before he gets to a full-on scream.

any recs?

We have a vtech monitor, sound only not video. So far it has been great! Very clear sounds (many sound monitors get bad reviews for a static sound). It was $60 for the one with two parent units (we have one in our bedroom and one in the living room) at both Target and Amazon, although you can get it with just one parent unit for around $40.

I also used the Vtech audio before we returned it to get the video version. Worked well for us!
