Doula?

Has anyone had a doula? My husband is worried about staying 'upright' as he doesn't do we'll with hospitals, blood etc. and my mom has passed away so there is no female family support, so we are thinking about getting one. What was your experience like with one and what did you ask in interviews? Thanks!

    I just hired a doula, but haven't had my baby yet. My needs are not too complex...I just want someone to support me who really knows positions, breathing techniques, and some basic bodywork (massage/accupressure/compresses) to help relieve labor pain. Thus, I decided to go with a less expensive newer doula. There is quite a range of doulas and you could get a very specialized person.

    Best decision I ever made. She was such a comforting presence. Even though DH was hesitant at first, he admitted later that he was really glad she was there for both of us because it's so hard to remember everything and think clearly when you're in the midst of labor. If you are considering going for a med free birth and laboring at home for awhile, make sure the doula will come to your house in addition to the hospital. Not all do.

    I have support people that come with the midwives.   I have been a certified doula and the families always appreciated the support and info I provided.  Most of my clients came from the childbirth classes I taught.  I highly recommend one.
