A secret...

I've been comfort nursing DD for a couple of hours every night before bed recently.  I actually have been loving our quiet time together--my husband is usually working in the evening, so it's just the two of us.  I read or watch tv while she very slowly nurses herself to sleep, and then she usually stays asleep until morning.  I'm not sure we would have fallen into this habit if she would take a pacifier or wasn't pretty high-needs or if there were other people around to make me feel sheepish about our nightly marathon nursing sessions, but it's working pretty well for us. Are we totally crazy, or are there other closeted comfort nursers out there?  I feel like I ought to feel limited or exhausted by our little arrangement, but I'm actually just enjoying myself because I get to spend my nights with a snuggly baby instead of a fussy one.

  • I have two older kids 7 and 12 and DH is also always home at night but ever since my LO started STTN she does marathon nursing sessions at night. I just sit on the couch and watch TV with the family or DH or read to the 7yo. So even though I have older ones we still enjoy the nightly routine.
  • Yep. We don't do it for quite that long but it's definitely part of our routine! I tank him up around 5/5:30, then storytime, bath, and comfort nursing for as long as he wants. I can usually escape to dinner around 7:30!

Wow - what time does he wake up?

I do some comfort nursing, but not that long. I try to go sleep within half an hour after she does, so once she's enough asleep, I take her off and put her to bed so I can get to bed.

  • I do this too :) sometimes she just wants to be close and have a snack. The bottle doesn't so it for her at those moments and she falls asleep quick! I enjoy it!
  • Just finished up comfort nursing E and she's finally out. I swear every time we have date night she makes me pay for the time away by constant nursing and a super late bedtime. I feel like the cluster feeding helps her get a fuller tank so she sleeps longer.

  • We nurse all day every day... She naps with my boob in her mouth. Lately (like past few days) she has been having more active alert time and is not requesting to nurse as often (might go 2 hours instead of 1 or 1.5 hrs)... And to be honest it makes me a little sad. I love our time together. I don't know when I will want to stop.

  • I wish I could get my little guy to comfort feed at night. Lately he's been so fussy for his nighttime feeding, he'd rather just have his pacifier and fall asleep.
  • I agree my LO used to be like that but now he gets fussy and fidgets and kicks and pulls on my nipple.  I miss when it could just be like that!!

  • Especially since LO started daycare - this is what we do.  He comes home hungry, and I'm pretty much glued to the couch until bedtime.  He naps a bit, eats, naps a bit, and eats some more.  I really quite like the snuggle time and time to read!

  • Lily comfort nurses at least once before really going to bed.  If she hasn't nursed for 30 minutes or better, she's not ready for bed.
