S/o baby names and dog names.

I had a mom once say when I introduced my DD to her DD "oh, that's our dogs name". She wasn't being offensive but it still rubbed me the wrong way.. Lol Today, I went to a new friends for dinner and she has two dogs..one of them has the same name as our top girl name for this baby.. It makes me laugh because neither name to me are traditional dog names.. Would you still name your baby that name? I know it sounds silly, lol. And sorry for the paragraph... Can't add spaces from my iPad.. :)

  • Ditto PPs, if it's a human name then use it

  • It is very common for people to give "human" names to an animal. I have seen a John, Madison, Ava, etc while working at the clinic. So like a poster said unless it is Fluffy or Rover then you are probably fine.

Yeah we hear a lot of dogs named Charlie. What can you do? :)
  • Our dogs name is Lilly. I love the name for a kid or dog
  • I'd still use it. Our dog's name is Kate. I always liked it for a girl's name but H didn't. However, he thought it was a great name for our pup.

  • I would still use it.   My parents have 2 dogs with popular girl names and I probably wouldn't use those but friends dogs' names I totally would.

  • My dogs have human names. My dad's first comment when we told him DS's name was that he had only heard of it as a dog's name. Whatever! My sister's name is a common dog name, too.

  • If you love the name, use it.

We have close family with dog's named Olivia, Lucille, Jackson, Sophie...the list goes on.

I actually love Olivia but I wouldn't use it because the relative would NEVER stop with it haha I like other names better than Olivia though so there's that. ;)

Our dog is Anya. It's a people name too but not a common one.

  • When my brother was born, my family called him "Jake" as a nickname on his formal name. A couple months later, my grandparents got a dog and named it Jake. My brother is 22 now and my family still complains about "Jake the dog".

I don't think it would be weird for you to use the name. But I do think it's weird when people name their animals after a kid. But, I'm also not a huge fan of human names on animals. Who wants a puppy named Dave? Seems so weird to me. But whatever.
  • Our dog's name is Baxter and my sister has a former co-worker that named his son Baxter.  That was a first for me.
