Short naps poll

My irritating mother is visiting and suggested that LO takes short naps because he is BF and would get "some rest once he is FF"

So little poll, does your baby take mostly short naps 25 to 45 minutes and are they BF or FF?

Same. Occasionally we will get a 2 hour nap but its usually the day after a stimulating day before...

On average DD takes 30-45 min naps and is FF. Occasionally she will do 1 hour or even a little more but that's not the norm.

  • 30 on a good day but usually 20 minutes and he is BF.
  • Usually naps for 30 mins anymore than that is rare and a cause for celebration and she is EBF.

  • 40 minutes on the dot every single time. You can set the clock by my kid. He's EBF. My best friend tells me the same thing as your mom.
  • EBF and naps are an hour+ if I hold her, 30 minutes if I put her down.

For my LO, holding vs not holding is the biggest determiner in how long a nap lasts!

  • If the environment is calm and quiet then upto 2 hour naps and she's EBF.

  • I don't think it makes a difference. V sometimes sleeps 10 min, sometimes 2 hours. Are you switching to formula?

The plan is to at 5 months when I return to work. She thinks I should now. I am not going too.

J is EBF and like jayro, the duration of nap depends on held or not held. The past few days LO has slept about 30 mins once or twice in the morning but then has a 2-3 hr nap in the afternoon. He just seems so excited in the morning that he doesn't Like to sleep much.

As @jayro10 said it's definitely about whether she's held or not too.

  • First nap of the day is usually closer to 2 hours, but the other 2 naps are almost an hour on the dot. We EP.

  • M has started taking one long nap each day, over 2 hours, then another hour plus nap, and various shorter ones. She is EBF and 11 weeks. I know tons of BF babies who nap well!

  • Ps- we swaddle for naps and that makes all the difference

  • Usually one good nap 1.5-2 hours once a day. The rest are 30-60 minutes. EBF.

You have to remember that people were told formula was better when most of us were growing up and if someone has believed that for many years, it is hard to change her mind.

  • Usually 30 mins if in her crib, and 2 hrs + if in her swing or rocker. She is EBF.

I forgot to mention my LO is the same. If I am holding him I can get a 2 hour nap out of him. I should ask her theory on that since he "isnt getting real food to keep him full enough to sleep."

  • LO has been on formula from the start. She used to take naps lasting up to 3 hours but now they are down to 40 minutes. I wish your "irritating mother" was right -- my house used to be so clean!

EBF- two catnaps in the AM, a long afternoon/early evening usually around 3.5-4hrs (I wake up at 4 hours or by 5:00pm so not to interfere with bed time).  Then maybe one catnap in the PM before bedtime routine that starts around 7:15.

ETA: All naps are in his crib.

  • I'm actually an early June mom (6/3), but I figured you wouldn't mind if I replied. My LO is mostly formula fed, although he does get a bottle or two of breast milk a day. He rarely naps more than an hour once he gets up for the day.
  • EBF and takes multiple 2-4 hour naps and stttn 9-6.

  • 15-30 min naps and she is EFF. Occasionally she will take a long 1 or 2 hour nap but that's rare.
  • I EBF. My LO naps up to three hours in a row. We usually have two 1-hr naps and one long 3-ish hour nap. She also slept 10 hours in a row last night.

    (LO is 11 weeks)
I am so jealous of your naps!!!!
