I went in a few days ago with what I thought was a yeast or urinary track infection and they did a urine test and it came back positive. My sister in law had it too. She actually found out the same way I did. On a brighter note I have my first u/s on Monday. Just wanted to vent...
It's not a huge deal. I tested positive last time. (Which means I always will.) They just gave the girls two doses of antibiotics through my IV before they were born.
That's not correct. Just because you were last time doesn't mean you always will be.

That's what I'm told! She also put me on antibiotics now.
I was actually told I'll always have it. My sister in law was told the same also. In addition my best friends sister in law was also told the same info.
Gbs can come and go. That's why they test you so late in pregnancy. Testing positive early on doesn't mean you're positive later, or vice versa. Having it once definitely doesn't mean you'll always have it.
If you do still have it close to delivery it's really not a big deal. They'll give you abx during labor and watch the baby a little more closely afterwards.

If you've been told you'll always have it that's bad advice.

" A woman may test positive at certain times and not at others. That’s why it is important for all pregnant women to be tested for group B strep between 35 to 37 weeks of every pregnancy."

When I was pregnant with Skippy, I was tested for GBS at 7 weeks, and treated with antibiotics at that time. When I went into labor, they automatically hooked up an antibiotic in my IV. My other doctors since then, have not tested for GBS this early. I still don't know why I was tested in the first trimester at that time, but it was pointless. And, I've been told by all of my doctors that GBS can come and go, which is why women are checked a month before birth is expected. About 30% of women test positive for GBS.
I do think it's incredibly important for the medical team to be vigilant about GBS at the time of delivery, because it can be a very serious situation for the baby. If the baby is born by C-section, the concern is lowered greatly. GBS is only dangerous during vaginal delivery.

I've been paranoid about GBS for years (I have reasons, but I don't want to share on the board - it would only scare everyone). Thankfully, my current doctor understood my fears, so she took an entire hour to educate me about it.

Just to add there is still some danger with gbs and c sections if your membranes are ruptured or you have been laboring prior to the c section. You would get antibiotics prior to delivery in those cases
Yes - very true, thank you for the clarification!! I didn't divulge when I put it so simply that concerns are lower...I should have been more specific.
