Yesterday morning I woke up with what I thought was just a little sore shoulder. It didn't really bother me at the time, and as I went about my day I didn't notice it at all. We took DS into the city to do the swan boats and frog pond, and it was a really great day! On the way home though my shoulder really started to hurt. It didn't seem to change at all when I moved my arm, but when I took a deep breath it hurt like hell!! And then we went out to dinner with my family and in the middle of dinner it all of a sudden hurt so bad I started to cry. It feels like I'm being stabbed and also at it's worst I can feel it at the top of my left rib too.
I called the on-call OB. I wasn't sure if it was pregnancy related or not but I thought I'd start there. She said it's very common and that my body is stretching so quickly and the pressure is mounting as the babies get bigger. Basically, it's one of 2 things, it either excess gas pushing on my diaphragm which has a nerve ending in the shoulder or it's the babies forcing themselves under my ribs and into my diaphragm again causing the pain in my shoulder. Overnight I didn't really feel it until I got up to go to the bathroom - basically anytime I'm sitting I can feel it, standing I'm fine and laying down I'm ok too.
Today it's been a dull ache all day and again after dinner I was in tears again for a few minutes. A hot pack doesn't work because the problem isn't actually in my shoulder (I tried). I'm going to try the Gas X she suggested starting tomorrow, but I feel like if it was gas though it would have been better today since I had a bowel movement last night and haven't really felt gassy at all today. Definitely taking Tylenol tonight to take the edge off so I don't dread my bathroom breaks.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Was there anything that you found gave you relief? It's going to be a very long 8 weeks to go if this is here to stay.
