Naps

Just curious how much everyone's LO's are napping now. DS usually takes 4 naps a day. 2 are usually cat naps that range from 30-45 min and the other 2 usually are long ones from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. My full of advice sister tells me that my DS sleeps too much for his age. What?!

Re: Naps

  • My LO takes 3 naps a day. She wakes up around 7. First nap around 9 which is usually at least an hour sometimes as long as 2 1/2 hrs. Her second nap is around 12:30-1 depending on how long she has been awake from her morning nap. This is her long nap that's usually 2-3 hours. Then depending on how that nap went she takes one around 5-6ish and it's usually like 30-40 mins. Goes to bed around 7-8ish.

Sounds like your baby is getting a fine amount of sleep. Babies need different amounts depending on the baby and how well they sleep at night. And at this age the amount of sleep they need from day to day may even vary.

  • DS takes several very short naps throughout the day, usually only about 25-20 min long.  He's just impossible to console by about 6-7pm, and then we start a bedtime routine of bath, lotion, jammies, nursing, bed.  I'm sure he wouldn't be so grouchy in the evening if he would take better naps during the day, but he just won't.

  • DD takes 4 naps too. 830 am, 12 pm, 3 pm and 5:30pm. The first three are typically 1-1.5 hr and the last nap of the day is only 30min.
  • My DD only takes 3 naps a day morning around 9-10 30-45 min nap, then around 3-4 thats an hour long, and then usually a 15-20 min cat nap around 6ish if not he gets grumpy.I think your babies nap's are fine.

  • LO takes about 3 naps a day.  He's a cat-napper though so they usually range from 30-45 minutes.  He takes one around 8 (or about an hour and a half after he wakes up), 12:30 and 4:30.  Every so often he will take a 20 minute nap between 12:30 and 4:30 depending on his mood. ;)

  • I've been blessed with children who don't like to sleep. We don't have any sort of routine yet. DD3 takes one good nap for 1-2 hours. Then she takes a few cat naps, around 20-30 min, usually while nursing.

LOs schedule is pretty much the exact same.

    Same here.
  • My LO takes 3 to 4 naps a day depending on when she wakes up and what we're doing. First one is typically around 8:30am, another one around 11:30am, then 2:30pm. Sometimes she'll take another one around 5:00pm. One nap tends to be longer, around an hour, and the others around 30 minutes. She's in bed for the night between 7 - 7:30pm and wakes up around 6:30-7:00am.

  • We used to have two longer and one short but that has all gone out the window. Since I started back to work.

  • 4 as well. I only get 1 long nap, if I am lucky, and that is in the afternoon. The other 3 are 45 min max. 2 in the morning and one in the early evening.
  • Thanks for sharing ladies! I thought DS was sleeping a normal amount during the day. My sister just loves to give me her unneeded advice!!

  • My LO only takes 2 naps a day, but they are usually at least 90 minutes each, and the afternoon one sometimes goes 3 hours!

  • We have about three naps a day. Two range from 30-60 minutes. The other is usually pretty long 1.5-2 hours

  • generally three naps, but if they are short, occasionally four. key is his first nap, when that's 1.5-2 hours then he tends to take a second long nap and a shorter third nap. he goes down one hour after being awake, then an hour and a half after he wakes up from each of his naps. i've been trying to stretch him to no avail, he just starts to fuss and i whip him upstairs to the crib. last nap is usually out with my other son so i'm just happy when he falls asleep b/c if he misses the third nap the early evening is a nightmare.

agree with others that i don't think there's too much sleeping they can do. i've read their brain develops while they sleep.
