What should I do? Re: telling

So we are going to see my IL's in 2 weeks over Labor Day weekend. I will be 6 weeks 1 day and won't have my u/s for a few more weeks. I've had HCG's done and they doubled.

I told them with my first pregnancy before the u/s and we had to "untell" them when I miscarried which sucked. So since then I've only told after my first u/s.

My dilemma is we will be at their house for 3 nights. I'm a pretty big drinker. Also my SIL is there and we always hang out and drink. I don't want to tell them until after the first u/s but I feel like I have no choice. I can't fake drink the whole time as we drink wine with dinner and beer throughout the day since we are at the lake. I even suggested not going but H was adamant that I go.

So should I put my fears aside and just tell them? I don't know what to do.

  • Fake a UTI a tell them you're on some heavy duty antibiotics.

  • Do whatever makes you most comfortable. It's not that difficult to fake drink or make up another excuse as to why you aren't drinking if you want to go that route.

Completely up to you, I needed my family's support when I went through my miscarriage so there was no question for me this time.

  • @maelic I did think about that but I know my MIL & SIL will guess and flat out ask me. They know we are contemplating a third.

I don't know how to fake drink for 3 days especially at dinner?

    I wouldn't tell MIL if I had a m/c unless I had to.

  • Well, I don't know how it is for you, but even though I love drinking, if it's as hot as it's been, I have to stick to water or I'll get a dehydration headache.

    ...Could you use that?

  • I have used the antibiotic excuse with people I was not ready to tell yet and they've never thought twice about it. The trick is to lie creatively and convincingly. Go into detail about how much your infection sucks.
  • I used the antibiotic excuse with my very nosey aunt this past weekend. She asks if I'm pregnant everytime we are together and when she saw me turn down wine at dinner she goes "whyyyyy" oh I'm on antibiotics. She gave me a disappointed "oh" and that was the end d it.

  • That is tough. It might be easier and less stressful to tell them. Trying to fake drink for 3 days including meals would be really annoying. I had to fake drink the other day and I did it by pretending to sip my glass of wine and then pouring out some every time I got up to go to the bathroom or kitchen. But doing that for a few hours is different than for a few days.

  • I would probably just tell them to make my own life easier, honestly. I would just emphasize that you are still very early and are waiting to celebrate until you see an u/s.

  • If they do still question if you're pregnant even after the antibiotics excuse you can lie and tell them no if you're comfortable with that. I just had to deal with the same thing this past weekend with my mom, sisters and cousins at a baby shower. They left me alone when I said "nope".

  • I would probably tell them, but also make sure they know it's really early and you haven't had your first u/s yet, so while you are cautiously optimistic, you don't want them to tell anyone.
