Have you seen this letter?

A lady with an autistic son got an anonymous letter from someone in the neighborhood who says the boy should be euthanized, among other things. WTF is wrong with people?

  • I've read it. I can't even come up with words to respond to it.

  • Heartbreaking to read. I wonder if they can extract DNA or fingerprints from the paper and/or envelope to find the horrible person that wrote this.
  • What.the.hell Honestly, I had assumed it was written by a man until I got to the end. Sickening.

  • I'm kind of hoping it came from another teenager in the neighborhood. Just a stupid teenager who doesn't know anything. Because I really can't imagine a grown woman writing that, never mind that she claims to be a mother herself.
  • I don't think it's real. There is no way. I bet it comes out it was written for attention.
  • My husband read it and told me to come over to read it. (He was upset by it.) I can't and I won't.

I don't know if it was written for attention but I can't imagine any human being writing that...it literally makes me ill. I really REALLY hope it's fake...

Even if it was wrote for attention and isn't real... the words were in their heart to write! If I wanted to write a letter to someone I knew I couldn't even imagine words so vile.
I think they're saying they think the mother wrote it herself, to get attention.

Isn't that even worse? For the words to be in her heart and be able to put them on paper, isn't that a lot worse than a stranger? It's her son!
Yes, of course it's awful. It's disgusting and so, so sad.
  • I think people are more skeptical after the Walmart story. Either way it is pretty sickening that someone took the time to write that.

I don't necessarily think that...maybe it was a teenager or maybe it is just some big internet hoax, or maybe it was the family. Who knows? I don't, but it makes me so sad to think that anyone could be so cold to write those things.

same here. I'm sort of skeptical, and I think it's mostly because I don't want to believe that any person could be so cruel.

I wanted to say the same thing and thought it'd be a UO.  I saw this all over FB and I just don't think it's real. I think that about a lot of things that get shared constantly - even some nice stories.  People want to see what they can get to "go viral."

I know there are sick, nasty people in the world who would write a letter like that, but it really just sounds fake.

  • Even if it is fake it does not detract from how disgusting it is. Talk about a tasteless joke. It makes me sad that anyone would even think to write something like that, joke or not.
Because you're mine, I walk the line....

  • I don't buy for one second the mom did it. The well actually gets deeper as ASD adults get older in my experience.

  • I also live close to where this happened.  I don't think it was the mother or the family that did this.  And as pp mentioned they are doing rallys in the neighbourhood for support and the family.  I am hoping it was a group of teenagers that have no idea it would cause so much hurt.  It was mailed to the post box (not dropped on the doorstep. Not that that really matters.  It is awful and I hope someone gets caught for doing it but im not sure how they could catch the suspect.

I was just coming back to say the same thing. I hate to be the cynical one but these things keep turning out to be hoaxes. And I'm with Amy on everyone pointing fingers

  • I'm not saying it's not absolutely horrible, I'm just saying maybe it isn't real. It reminds me a little of the pink headband at Walmart story. I read the mom of said child is wheelchair bound with MS, which is also very sad.
  • I was just at our local autism office being filmed for the news. So far it seems legit. Here in Canada we do not pay for any services. None, so no financial incentive to do it. Plus it's an elderly grandma raising the kid.

Were you being filmed about this case? I didn't even realize they were in Canada.
  • Yes we were filmed. We just happened to be at the office dropping off some books and the news crew was there. Because DD and DH both have autism they asked our thoughts. It happened in Ontario Canada. I haven't heard anything about another letter yet. I really hope it's a hoax. But yeah, there would be zero incentive for financial gain here. I am shocked even about the post regarding the person getting her DD assessed for speech. The cost of some insurance. DD gets free preschool at a typical integrated preschool, an aide for apron 30 hours a week, social groups, speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy and behavioural therapy for free. We also receive a payment from the government every month of 200. I believe our services add up to about 200,000 a year that we receive. We also get free respite care, ie our babysitter is reimbursed by the government. Some families get free live in nannies and even weekly maid service. Parking, mileage for all doctors appointments. Free family counselling and more. If you are in Canada you are not really hurting for raising a child with ASD.
