Working Moms

only getting to spend a half hour with DS...vent

I know these posts come on here somewhat often, but I just need to vent to some working moms. I started a new job a couple of weeks ago and I am working 12 hour+ days that gets me home in time to only see LO 30 minutes.  And there are a couple of things just tearing me apart...those 30 minutes are not quality.  He is super crabby by then and overtired because some nights he is probably kept up a little later to spend time with me, plus he just switched rooms at DC and dropping a nap so he's overtired from that too.  Also, he's been going through an extreme daddy phase for a couple of months.  That's hard for me in general for him to be a daddy's boy, but even worse when I come home and want nothing but to play and/or cuddle with him and he only wants to go to Daddy. Not kidding, SCREAMS when i try to hold him many nights.

I think things should get better soon once I get over the new hump with work, but for now I am just so sad:( DH and I are doing fine but I feel SO guilty...I am gone in the morning before DH and LO are even awake, so he has daycare drop off and pickup, dinner, etc. DH has a very 8-hr, non-stress job and works from home.

Thanks for letting me vent...no questions, just had to get it out...

  • Awww, I'm sorry.  I know how you feel.  When I went back to work, I started a new job so I was working some long hours at first.  It does get better, but those first few weeks are going to be rough.  Is there something you can do when you get home to make those few minutes with DS more enjoyable?  Have a snack on your way home or have DH start a bath so you can help with it.  Or just ride it out and know that it won't last forever.  Hugs!

I agree, it's a hump you both will get over. Hang on Momma!

  • im with you 100%...i cry almost every night that I put DS to bed. it stinks. Hang in there and cherish ur weekends. Its just a phase he is going through1
  • Thanks everyone...I work five days a week (PP asked). I do bath and nighttime routine everynight so we do have that "special" together...just wish it was more time before that and he was less crabby. Praying for less hours, more quality time and this total Daddy phase to pass.

  • That is tough, I have days like that sometimes, but if you are doing that 5 days a week that is really tough =( Hopefully your hours might get reduced a bit in the future?
