Capsule wardrobe

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe. Buying a few nicer pieces that can be mixed and matched instead of having a ton of clothes that are bad quality.

I collect vintage scarfs and make accessories so I have a neat collection. People always comment on my outfits. The thing is that my outfits look neat because of these things, the clothes themselves are not great. They are all made of cheap fabric that falls a part easily and usually is not the best fit. I just think my style has changed and I hat looking into my closet and seeing clothes I no longer like.

I am not a big fan of pants. I mean I have a pair of jeans I will wear occasionally but I don't love pants. I'm a skirt/dress girl who loves cute tights underneath. This is making it harder for e to design my wardrobe. When I look for ideas I always see lists that are pant based. Should I pick a color scheme and work with that. I have decided instead of black I want Navy, brown, and tan/camel to be my neutrals. But as for pops of colors I have no idea...I love to many. I think I want my vintage scarf collection and accessories to be the focus.

It will take me awhile to do this. I just feel lost oh how to go about this.... advice?

I don't have any advice but I just love your style... I don't know your physical clothing style, but your overall outlook on things I just love.  :x
Awwww your so sweet!!! I think my clothes style is maybe "eclectic". LOL is that a style? I like vintage retro cuts, shabby chic type look. I think my accessories REALLY fit that. I love them. But the clothes themselves are just starting to fall a part. I have a few pieces I love but they don't match eachother. I end up not getting o wear my favorite scarfs because none of my pieces match :( LOL I need to start investing in pieces I love and get a flow going.

I prefer to do things in one foul swoop.

I have no advice for you Neko (but I remember a siggy pic of you in a really cute outfit!), but I needed to correct this...it should be one 'fell' swoop, fell meaning deadly, it's from Shakespeare, Macbeth if I'm not mistaken.  Just in case you ever wanted to use it again Nowababy =)

Thinking more about the wardrobe, do you know of any stores that sell the style of clothes you are into and are known for having quality clothes?  And do you worry about stains at all?  I know personally I refuse to pay a lot of money for things right now because my kids (and my own clumsy self) tend to ruin my stuff often just through our day to day lives.  If I ever go back to work my wardrobe will get an upgrade, but not till then.  I do splurge on shoes (mostly boots) though =)
I feel like I know my style and love what I have but I need to replace some of it because my body type has changed and because I have a lot of pieces that are just not in good condition. The style I love can be a bit hard to find it seems. I don't have that normal style that can be defined at a store. I really love getting pieces custom made. I used to sew my own clothes but I just don't have the time now to make the really good quality stuff.  Like I want a classic brown circle skirt and I'll probably get it custom made.

I'm a bit worried about stains but I am really good at stain treating and stuff so it's not something I'm crazy worried about. I just have to be careful about the fabric being something I can treat if need be. But my favorite shirt is a beautiful vintage linen what shirt with crochet detail, I have got stuff spilled on it a billion times and I always save it. But at home I wear my "house dresses"  (jersey dresses that are super stained) when we do crafts and stuff so I tend to not get my nicer clouse to messy beyond day to day sticky kid hands.

Okay I am in the process of completely replacing my wardrobe. I started in the spring so I'm working on fall/winter right now.

Navy I looove, so it's my biggest neutral. From navy I decided on accent colours I wanted. So for spring/summer, chose coral and white mostly. So I bought navy, coral, white, and denim bottoms. Then I only bought quality tops I love and that could be worn with multiple bottoms.

I plan to pack away my spring/summer clothes when fall hits to save any wear and tear on them. For fall/winter I chose navy, cream, burgundy, mustard. So I'll stick with that theme when I purchase following the same guidelines: pieces I love, that are quality, and that can be worn in many ways.

Honestly, this may sound totally crazy, but every time I purchase something, I add it to a literal list and write out ways I can wear it. That way I can see how I can wear it instead of getting stuck in certain outfits. I figure in the following seasons I can add bits and pieces as I find things I love.

For navy, I'd say red, kelly green, coral, nude/camel/tan, white/cream, mustard yellow, brown, pink, purple are all good accents. I seriously plan out items that I want and how I can wear them and then stay on the lookout for them and buy as I see instead of just "oh I like this single item, I'll buy it and figure out how to wear it later."

  • Would you do a denim dress? that's a great basic and a compromise between dresses and jeans.

I will look into that!  If I could find one in a style I loved I for sure would!
