Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Help with sleep issues!

Help!
My baby girl is 3 months old. I'm lucky that so far she sleeps through the night with one waking for a feed. The problem is the 'putting her ti bed' part and she doesn't like naps - whenever I put her down its a battle!
I try putting her down as soon as I see she's tired and I have her in a Joey pouch to stop her scratching herself (she doesn't like to be swaddled so this keeps her hands contained but allows more movement).
I've tried ssshhh-ing, placing my hand on her for comfort, holding her and singing to her but she just keeps crying. I feel like I've gone backwards because I'm back to holding her while I bounce on a fit ball or rocking her bassinette.
But everything I read tells me not to do so much to put her to sleep because she'll always rely on it and needs a chance to learn to go to sleep herself.... But it seems to really upset her when I'm giving her a chance lol! She is such a smiley wee thing when she's awake, it breaks my heart to have her cry and then we both end up upset!
Anyone out there with same problem? Any solutions?

  • I'm no expert, but I would suggest that you do whatever you need to do to get her to sleep for now. When she's older, you can sleep train,

  • I don't believe in the "don't do too much or they'll rely in it." Babies NEED help! And they'll grow out of it. Just this weekend DS was able to put himself to sleep several times w/no help from us. Tonight he has regressed to needing help again. It's just one of those things we need to hang in there for
  • I agree with pp, at 3 months old they still may need help getting to sleep sometimes. They won't form a habit at this age. My guy usually falls asleep on his own, but we have nights (like last night) that I needed to rock him a little.
  • Honestly, if your kid is getting good sleep, that DBA comes on it's own..IMHO.  Our DD was rocked to sleep for every single nap/bed time until like 3.5 months. then i put her down awake for naps, she fussed a few minutes, then went down. now it doesn't matter if she falls asleep in my arms or not, it doesn't effect her ability to sleep
