3rd Trimester

FTM IS IT TIME!?

So I'm a ftm, 37w 2d. I'm having really bad low back pain and cramping in my stomach. I've not lost my mucus plug that I know of.. I don't want to call my doctor or my DF from work (he's on 3rd) if I just need to take a tylenol and drink water. Is this just normal? Sorry to be so clueless!

Re: FTM IS IT TIME!?

  • I wouldn't take any Tylenol. Just drink some water and lay down. I'd start timing them if they feel like they are coming and going. If it seems like there's a pattern, I'd call the ER or your DF.

  • PP - Why wouldn't you take Tylenol? OP - I think it's a good idea to take Tylenol, drink some water, and rest. If it's the real thing then the Tylenol won't make a difference and you'll know it's time.

  • I'm a little confused... are you having contractions, or just lower back pain? If it is the latter, I'd go with the Tylenol and rest.

  • Have you tired to time the cramping?
  • If you're having contractions you want to be timing them like you doctor had to have discussed with you. There is the 5-1-1 rule....5 minutes apart, with a minute in length during the contraction for at least one hour, if not longer. If your water breaks and you GBS positive then go I right away. If you know you are negative for GBS then hang out a while till things pick up more.

  • My doc's orders for when I think its time:
    Drink a liter of water
Lay down and keep track of contractions

Often times, dehydration can lead to false labor.

  • Try to relax on your left side with water and a small snack, then see if you can time them.
  • So, what happened? Was it time?

  • Are you asking if you're in labor? Gee I don't know, good call on asking internet strangers though.

But seriously, as PP said, if you are having timeable contractions and not just craps/back pain then call your OB. If you are just having back pain, take some Tylenol, drink some water, and lay down.

  • I get lower back pain and cramps a lot. It doesn't mean anything more then your body getting ready but that could take a few more wks.

  • Or, call your OB because THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE PAYING HIM FOR. Seriously? How do you expect us to know?

  • I usually try to avoid being snarky on here but you'll know when it's time, and if you don't know you should call your doctor.  Many women on here are also FTMs and even us STMs have no way of knowing whether or not you're in labor.
