Poop question!!

We started solids on 8/10. We just did oatmeal for a week, and DD's poop was pretty much normal, the consistency didn't change, she just started pooping more frequently. She'd been going once a day, an after starting oatmeal it became 2 to 4. Her pediatrician said this is normal, that oatmeal will get things "moving along" and that it's rice that usually binds them up.

We couldn't find plain barley cereal for this week, so on Saturday we started her on Earth's Best multigrain, which has oatmeal, spelt and barley, DD's pediatrician said that would be fine. Well her poop yesterday looked like it had spinach in it! Green bits of stuff, but not mucousy, though still very soft, only slightly thicker than EBF poop. If her entire poop was green, or if it was mucousy I'd be inclined to thing it's an allergy issue, but the green bits were separate... um, entities, I guess? It was exactly what I'd expect it to look like if she'd eaten a tiny bit of roughly puréed spinach. Or even a few blades of grass for that matter, although I have no idea when she'd have ha the opportunity for that!

My mom is watching her today and said the same thing about her poop.

She was fairly gassy last night, but she slept pretty well Saturday night, so I'm not sure of the multigrain cereal made her gassy or whether this could be a sign of allergy/intolerance or just her system adjusting to a new kind of food. Thoughts? Has anyone had this happen? Would you call the pediatrician just to be sure?

Re: Poop question!!

  • DD's poop looks exactly like this. She eats Earths Best oatmeal and has for a month now. She had no issues that made me think there's an intolerance. Fwiw I wasn't concerned.
