For those with a bedtime routine

Hi Everyone,

My LO turned 8 weeks today and I had a few questions about starting a bedtime routine.  I am shooting to put my son down around 7:30-8:30, but what if we have a feeding around 5 or 6?  My LO alsways feeds between 4:30 and 5:30 and then falls asleep.  For example my LO had a feeding at 5:30 this evening we played for a little and then he slept from 6:30-8:30.  When he woke to eat around 8:30 tonight he was wide awake, so we feed, play and then put to sleep.  With those with bedtime routines of a specific time, are you just feeding them at a set time regardless of when they ate last?  What if your LO has been asleep for the hour or two before, do you play a little or just put them right back to sleep with a bottle?  Just trying to figure out this whole bedtime thing.  For some reason, I can't seem to figure it out!  Thanks!!!

Re: For those with a bedtime routine

  • I try not to let her nap too long in the evening before our bedtime routine. She still needs to sleep every hour and a half or so but after five I just let her doze in my arms or in the living room with noise. So she just catnaps. We don't feed on a schedule so if she's just ate I do the bedtime routine of bath, lotion, pajamas and then top her off with whatever she'll take. Then we rock to sleep. After a week her long evening naps quit and the short cat naps worked out so she was ready for bed at 8:30.

  • I've found that a bath about an hour before you put them down will help calm them. My girl knows bath time means bedtime is right around the corner. We usually bathe her around 9:30 and put her down fr bed around 10:15. she is already on a routine at 6 weeks old!
  • We all have different schedules for our babies at night time. I usually start winding my LO down at 830. We will start a bath and turn on some soothing music in his bedroom. A massage with lotion and fed. He is asleep by 9-930 every night. He only sleeps 2 or 3 hours at a time.
