Schedules

Hi Ladies. I am sure all this has been gone over a million times. I haven't been on in a while...well since having LO 12 weeks ago. My hands have been full managing her and her big brother.

Anyway, I know I am a second time mom, but I know what I messed up on the first time because I rocked my little man....well forever and it took a year for him to sleep through the night regularly...I so don't want that again.

I have always heard anything goes for the first 12 weeks. Well my LO has been napping in her swing and I would really like to switch that to her crib, but its not going good. I'm not sure at what point it is ok to sleep train? I thought around 4 months? Isn't she still too young to cry it out?

I have been putting her in her crib at bed time and going in to "dream feed" her around 11 then I move her to the bassinet in our room. Does anyone else dream feed? Or did anyone stop it already? I am curious if she will sleep better if I don't go disturb her, but I am nervous to try to because then I worry she will just wake up shortly after I go to bed.

Hope all you ladies are enjoying your little ones.

Re: Schedules

  • Oh and I forgot to ask, does your LO's have scheduled nap times yet?

  • We did dream feed for about two weeks but then he started to sleep worse so I just stopped and he eventually started to sleep through the night.
  • I feel like these questions are so hard to answer because every baby is so different, even siblings can be so different.

Our LO has never been on any type of schedule and she began sleeping 8 hours through the night around 6 weeks and 10 hours through the night around 9 weeks and is sleeping 10-11 through the night now. She naps about twice a day 2-3 hours each.

I don't think it's a mistake to rock your baby to sleep although it could certainly make it hard to stop. I did that with my sons and I loved it. I disn't consider it important for them to put themselves to sleep until they were ready on their own time. It was more work for me but I didn't mind.

A does not have scheduled naps yet. She has been harder to figure out than her brothers but I'm sure we'll get there.

Edit I consider sleeping through the night 5-6 hours at a time and although my kids were rocked to sleep they still managed to sleep though the night before they were one. (Sometimes waking for nursing)
  • We still do naps in the swing (though LO sleeps for the night in her PNP pretty well as long as we swaddle), and dream feed. She has a bottle around 8:00 or so, then a little play time, then she falls pretty soundly asleep in the swing until 10:30 or so when we wake her just enough for a bit of a bottle and put her down in her PNP for the night. She sleeps at least 8 hours that way.

Yesterday was the first time she fell asleep for a nap on her play mat instead of the swing.

She will be 12 weeks on Wednesday.

  • Glad to hear I'm not alone with the sleeping in the swing.
