Need advice LO MOTN feeding and sleeping.

Hi ladies. My LO is 14 weeks and she still wakes in the MOTN for a feeding around 2 or 3. After she eats I burp her n she falls asleep. The minute I put her down she may wait like 5 minutes then begins to move, make noise and starts sucking her hands and sometimes makes crying noises and stops but does all of this with her eyes closed. I'll pick her up and try and burp her again sometimes she has gas sometimes she doesn't. While I'm holding her she won't make any noises and will keep sleeping but again I put her down and she'll continue being restless but still with her eyes closed. She'll do this for a while (30 min) then fall asleep to wake up in an hour or so and do it again. I've tried everything from swaddling, unswaddling, changing her diaper again, putting a paci in, patting her back, white noise, burping, giving her more milk which she usually doesn't want and idk what else to do or if it's normal or not to be so restless at night. She usually sleeps the first half of the night and does fine but after the MOTN feeding this happens and goes on for the rest of the night until morning when she's up for the day. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks again ladies. (Sorry so long)

  • @ beaubeca no she's not full on crying or anything it just she seems so restless and she will make small crying noises but stops. I wasn't sure if other babies took so long to fall back asleep because 30 min seemed so long for her to be so squirmy. Thanks for helping put my worries somewhat at ease ladies. I did not know about the four month sleep regression!

Unless he's full on crying out (repeatedly) I don't tend to him. He self soothes and goes back to sleep deeply. He will even cry out once or twice but I always wait for it to be repetitive.

If your LO is full on crying and clearly upset then I would tend to her, but squirming alone could just be her getting settled. Personally, I think its good for them to learn to settle down and self soothe unless they are clearly upset and need something.
    All of this..

Here, here. This is why we turned off the sound on our video monitor. Our LO will eventually fall back asleep on her own. Her room is right next to ours so if she is actually crying, we will hear her regardless of the monitor.

  • It sounds like she just may be in the REM sleep stage, my LO wakes up a little and stirs and makes noise but shell eventually go back into the deeper sleep if we leave her be. I also wait to put her down until she's in the deeper sleep or else she'll wake back up.

  • I really need to make sure LO is awake vs just making noises.

  • Mine does the same thing and her feeding is at like 4 then she doesn't fall back to sleep til like 4:45. The problem with just letting her squirm is she has reflux so if she moves too much she spits up a lot. Then we would have to change her and the sheets. I am also at a loss.

Well, after reading this thread I decided to not be so quick to get LO when he stirs. Wow! This is my first MOTN feeding. Usually it would be # 2 or even 3! LO slept from 8:30 - 3:30!

I probably could have even waited now but i was feeling engorged when he cried out and he needed a diaper change. FX this isn't a fluke as long as I stick to not grabbing him at first peep. Thanks ladies!!!
