Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Where does your baby sleep?

Where does your baby sleep? In a nursery? In your room? In a crib? Bassinet? RNP? PNP? Cosleep? DD is 8.5 months and slept in a RNP in our bedroom until 3.5 months while I was on maternity leave. We then transitioned her to her room and crib which was fairly smooth process. However she would wake up DH since he's such a light sleeper and he had to wake early for work. Reason I'm asking...baby #2 is coming next April. I'm wondering if I should start them off in their crib in nursery from the start. Rather than having to deal with room transition and waking DH. Anyone else actually start the baby off in the crib? Seems like no one does anymore!

Re: Where does your baby sleep?

  • DS was in the RnP for three and a half months and then went to the crib. We started DD in the RnP but last week at five weeks we went to the crib because I needed her to start going to bed earlier so I could tend to DS. Having her in our room with us going in and out wasn't working. I'm sad she's away from me so soon but it really has worked better!

  • Our son only slept in our room for three weeks. We moved him into his crib at that point because my husband was going back to work and the LO is a very loud sleeper. It went great for us and we are all sleeping better because of it.

  • My two were in the crib in their own room from the first day we got home. We have a fairly small house- literally 10 steps from my bed to the crib.

  • Bassinet next to the bed at night, swing during the day, unless I need a nap too, then I'll take him to my bed with me. Trying to have him sleep one nap a day in the crib so he's familiar with it, but he doesn't fall asleep well on his own during the day and gets really fussy without a nap, so I end up using the swing. For the next one though, I want a RnP... I wish I had known about those things a few months ago!

This. DS was in his room in the crib from first night home.. The nursery is also right across the hall from our bedroom.

  • They are in RnPs on either side of our bed. They might sleep better elsewhere, but we'd miss them :)

  • It is actually recommended that baby co-sleep (be in the same room, not bed) with parents for up to six months to reduce the risk of SIDS.
  • We have him in a bassinet in our room at night.  During the day he sleeps in his swing most of the time since I can't seem to get him to nap in his bassinet or crib!!

Although last night I did move him to his crib where he slept for 2 hours since he is so loud in his second/third stretch of sleep!

  • Thanks everyone. I'm leaning towards putting LO number 2 in the crib from the start.
  • In our room in a PNP.

  • i kept DS in the RnP next to my side of the bed until one day last week I noticed his feet were totally hanging off (he is in the 95th percentile for height), and I realized he's actually getting big! :(

now he sleeps in a PnP near the foot of the bed at night, and has taken naps in his crib since I got the nursery together (he was around 8 weeks).

my DH also gets up really early for work, and I try not to wake him at night for anything- he is a really, really sound sleeper though. can your DH wear earplugs if the baby would wake him up before you can quiet him/her?

if you really would rather start LO off in his/her own room, I don't think there's anything wrong with that- this just worked better for us. TBH, the reason my LO is still in our room is because we haven't ordered a baby monitor yet and i can't hear him when he's in his room. i can't wait! :D

  • We started off in the crib and it has gone really well.  My dh gets up with her when she cries, changes her, and then wakes me to feed her.  This system has worked really well for us and he likes being involved.
