How much do you feed your LO?

How much do you feed your LO? I was at the park today and saw this woman feed her ds two containers of baby food, and he ate the entire thing. I only feed dd one container at lunch and again at dinner time. Am I not feeding her enough food? I was thinking about introducing a breakfast soon as well. She still only drinks 6 oz bottles about 5 a day. The only one she finishes is her 6 am bottle, for the rest of them she will leave an ounce or two. She will also eat a snack like puffs or a gerber cookie maybe twice a day. I feel like she doesn't drink enough if her formula, have to bring it up at her next dr appt.

Re: How much do you feed your LO?

  • When we do feed dd purees she only eats half a 4 oz jar at a time (once at lunch, once at dinner). When she has table food, she doesn't eat much of that either. We are still BF and she seemed satisfied so I am not worried. I notice sometimes though her appetite will be heavier than others. I think it will pick up soon because she is more mobile. Last week she straight up refused purees for 2 days and then all of a sudden started eating them again. I think babies go through phases so as long as your LO seems satisfied I wouldn't worry.

  • We don't do purees, so it's hard to compare how much. But for dinner last night DD2 ate some grilled chicken, about 1/8 of a cup and then steamed vegetables, about 1/3 of a cup. For breakfast the other day, she downed about half a slice of french toast. She generally gets 2 meals a day. Sometimes 3 depending on what we are eating.

This for us too (roughly).  DD always gets dinner, and usually also gets something at breakfast or lunch (not both, mostly because nap time always hits one or the other).  Last night at dinner she ate about 1/4 cup of lasagna and a quarter of a banana.  The night before she maybe ate 2 multigrain crackers and a slice of peach.  She varies based on how much she likes what I put in front of her, and how tired she is.  She still nurses about 8 times per day as well.

  • Morgan gets 3 meals a day, along with 3-4 6 oz bottles a day.

She has rice cereal with a vegetable puree for breakfast, sometimes a fruit also.  She will have the same for lunch and for dinner.  She usually has her bottle before breakfast, then again around 12 another about 3-4 and then right before bed.

  • We do BLW so its hard to tell. She gets a nibble for breakfast and lunch, like a crust of toast, or piece of fruit, nothing much. Supper she eats a bit of everything, but will gorge on one thing. She has eaten half a zucchini or an entire sweet potato when she liked it. She nurses on demand, so most of her nutrition is still BM.

  • Breakfast = 8oz bottle
    10:30a - 7oz bottle + 2oz home-made puree
    2:30a - same as 10:30a
    6:00p - same as 10:30a
7:00p - 2-3oz bottle offered although the last week I've had to throw it out because he won't actually eat it, just wants to play with the bottle

  • 8:30 - 8oz bottle
9:30 - 2 oz fruit mixed with oatmeal and yogurt
    12:30 - 6 oz bottle
    1:30 - 2oz veggies and 1 oz fruit
    4:30 - 6oz bottle
5:30 - 2 oz veggies, 1 oz fruit mixed with yogurt. and have been starting to give him little bits of whatever protein we are eating
    7:30 - 8oz bottle
  • I nurse on demand still..which is every 2.5 to 3 hrs. I'll offer her what I'm eating when I eat and give her puffs(she doesn't care for) or plum biscuits, which she loves.

  • Daphne gets 4 bottles a day (6 oz each), 3 meals consisting of 4 - 6 ounces of purée each and some solids (toast, scrambled eggs, checken, Cheerios, fruit - whatever we have around really) And a few sips of water a few times a day. We tried less food and more bottles, but it didn't work, so we just make sure she gets a healthy variety of the food she eats. My son on the other hand, at this age he was having 2 - 3 ounces only 2 times a day, so that's a huge difference just between my 2 kids!

  • 630 am 8 oz bottle
8 am 1/4 cup of oatmeal
    1030 am 8 oz bottle
    1230 pm 4 oz puree + 3 oz bottle
    230 pm 8 oz bottle
5 pm 4 oz diluted juice (he gets constipated easily so this helps)
    7 pm 8 oz bottle
These times vary depending on nap times, I wish it was that consistent though! He finishes his bottles 90% of the time and would eat 8 oz of purees if I let him so that's why I do the small bottle with it. She just might have a small appetite, I wouldn't worry too much as long as she's happy and gaining weight. I think my chunker eats too much but he's not really chubby, has no baby rolls or anything, I think he's skinny for his height.
  • Margo still nurses five times a day, and once in the middle of the night.
She also is on three meals a day.
Morning- oatmeal & puffs/yogurt bites or pieces of fruit
Lunch- veggie/fruit pouch & some protein (usually turkey or chicken)
Dinner- whatever we're eating (tonight it was black beans, avocado, cheese, & some puffs) with a pouch of fruit.

She is really hungry for real table food. Wants more so we're giving her it. She's also cruising and crawling and generally on the go the entire time she's awake.

  • My son has two tbs of rice cereal in the morning and 1 jar for lunch and 1 for dinner. He has about 4 4 oz bottles in between. And he's fine. He also gets lots of snacking in between as we'll, including fruit, puffs etc. I guess it depends on baby. And if she doesn't seem hungry then it's fine right...

  • I nurse on demand. I don't really keep track because I have to come home to feed her and its varied but I try to feed her before I leave for work around 6 am. Then I come home between 9 and 10 and she eats. Then I am home around 1:30 or 2 and she eats. After that I am usually home and its a free for all and she grazes. If I'm making dinner or doing something in the dining room or kitchen I give her yogimelts, puffs and some of those diced fruit/veggie things. My DH and I try to offer puréed food once in the AM (before 12) and once around dinner (anywhere from 6 to 8 depending on her naps). Some days she eats almost the whole jar. Most days she fights and wants to play with the spoon. I usually just cut up what I have in little bite sized pieces. She gets a good variety of little bits of food during the day. My mom owns a cafe and has lots of fresh fruits and veggies so we always eat there and she has her own little highchair and she gets little pieces of banana, carrots, green pepper, watermelon, pickle etc. she LOVES cantaloupe. She will eat that until she throws up!

She's always been on the last end of the "baby should be doing x between x month and x month" she's always in the last month range.

  • We do BLW so he eats until he is full. Some days it's not very much, other days I don't know where he is putting it all. Especially if I make rotini noodles with meat sauce... Boy loves him some pasta. He nurses and has a bottle 4-5 times a day, around 8oz give or take each time.

Us too! Elli doesn't like the purees much. So she eats every time I eat, some things she'll eat more then others. She's still BFing just fine and the Doctor says that's where the main nutrition is supposed to be coming from at this age.
