Herbal Tea

So, all I have been wanting at night is a cup of hot tea.  I had a bunch of herbal teas in my cabinet and I just took a look and it appears they are all either chamomile or have hibiscus in them, which I seem to be finding conflicting data on whether these herbs are OK during pregnancy.  Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on what is safe, and if not, any teas that you particularly enjoy?  TIA!

Re: Herbal Tea

  • I've read ( I think in "What to Expect When You're Expecting) that chamomile is fine sparingly. I just had a cup a couple of weeks ago. But I have read that hibiscus is not good.

  • My OB told me no green tea, no chamomile and no hibiscus until after baby, so that's what I'm sticking with. I have a huge amount of tea that I can't drink that stares me in the face everyday, but I have found a few teas that are caffeine free that I can drink!

Is this because most nob herbal tea is caffeinated or some other reason my drs never said anything about not having any type of teas and its not listed on the list if things to avoid :/
  • Chamomile and hibiscus can cause the uterus to contract.

The only tea I drink is peppermint leaf. There is agreen tea with pepermint, that is NOT the one I mean. Celestial Seasoning makes a pure peppermint tea that is good for indigestion. I will also just make honey lemon "tea." Boil water, add slices of lemon and honey, voila tea lol

  • Sorry climbrgrl but hot chocolate has caffeine. Less than coffee, but still enough that I plan to avoid it.
  • Now that it's getting close to show time I'm drinking the hell outta my favorite red raspberry leaf tea with nettles and dandelion leaf! RRL tones the uterus and dandelion is great to help keep swelling down. Yogi tea makes a wonderful preggo tea blend that's safe and Earth Mama Angel Baby makes a delicious Third Trimester tea- also absolutely safe.
I drink chamomile sometimes... if my guts are bothering me
  • We grow our own spearmint and steep that in hot water to make our own caffeine-free tea.
I did hear not to drink chamomile and hibiscus when I went to Lupicia tea shop.
