Questions to ask potential babysitter

I'm meeting with a woman on Thursday to potentially have as a babysitter as needed. She was recommended to me by another babysitter I wanted but who was looking for regular hours. All I know so far is that she has children and is currently going to school to become a midwife. Aside from obvious questions, like about her babysitting experience, if she can provide references, her hourly rate, what would she do in an emergency, etc., what are some questions you might ask that might not be so obvious? This is my first time hiring a babysitter, so I'd appreciate input from those with experience.

  • how she will discipline. Make sure she knows what you want there. Will she be driving the child? safety?

  • Her beliefs on CIO, if she is certified in first aid/CPR, the age of the children she has cared for, cooking experience (if you expect more than a box of Mac and cheese once your kiddo is on solids), and make sure she is comfortable with pets if you have any.

  • Teething begins around this age so maybe ask about her comfort level with administering Motrin, teething tablets, giving your baby girl soothies like frozen toys to gnaw on. :)

Maybe ask her about wearing your daughter in a sling/moby/Ergo, etc.?

Has she had infant CPR training? I require that myself.
