space between daytime feedings

Typically lo eats 4oz every 3 hours give or
take. I called during lunch to check in and dh said baby should have been up around
11 for a bottle. When I called it was 12:40. I asked when baby ate last and dh said 8am. I freaked since I feel that's way too long to go without a bottle almost going on five hours. I explained that baby needs a certain amount of oz per day based on his weight and if he goes too long between feedings dh should wake him. Changing his diaper never fails. Plus I really don't want him to get his days and nights confused when he's sttn most nights. My question, if baby is sleeping through a feeding how long will u let them
Sleep past their feeding time? Ds is 10 weeks and a couple days.

  • I never wake to feed, day or night. I figure she'll wake up when she's hungry and make up for it. Some days she sleeps more than others, and sleep is just as important for growing as eating is.

Same. We only woke to feed when he was a newborn. As our pedi said, he won't go hungry; he'll let us know when he wants to eat.

ETA -  except at night, he's only maybe gone more than 4 hours once or twice... if it was a regular thing, I'd probably call the dr. to check.

  • I wake DS during the day. I am not so worried about amount of feeding but getting day/night confused. I never let him sleep more than 4hrs.

  • During the day we wake her if she starts closing in on 4 hours, but that has only happened once or twice. She usually only goes 3 hours max.

  • In all honesty, some of the best nights sleep for M in the beginning were the days he took longer naps. We feed on demand, and he'll let us know if he's hungry. There have been a few times when he's napped a while in the afternoon and gone several hours without eating. We are at about 5, 6 oz bottles a day.
  • This only time I wake her to eat is if I need to go out or to an appointment and want her to stay on track so we can leave at a certain time but other than that I let her sleep. She has never slept longer than 3 hrs during the day though.

This exactly.  DS takes two short naps in the morning, a long afternoon nap (the one I have to wake him up from if it's been 4 hours), and one or two short naps before it's time for bed.

  • I never know how much LO eats, lol. I just try to eyeball the amt of time. But today he has been eating every hour or two and sleeping the rest. I'm thinking a growth spurt.

  • DD has started to go longer in between feedings during the day, but she makes up for it by drinking more at each feeding.  When she started doing this, I upper her amount from 4 oz to 5 oz.  Maybe your LO just went through a growth spurt?  DD slept a lot through her last one.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I typically don't wake to feed during the day. I try not to let ds sleep for more than 3 hours because I do want him to sleep at night. He took a nice 3 hour nap for dh and missed his feeding. I probably over reacted. He's just never gone that long between feedings before. At the most it's been four hours but that's pretty unusual during the day.

  • DD is a June baby, she's almost 8 weeks old, but she is eating 3-4 oz every 4 hours right now, and waking one time at night to eat.
