Cloth Diapering

Your no-sprayer poop routine

I have exhausted my CD budget for the next few weeks and just realized a decent sprayer could set me back $40-$50 or more....

Currently I scrape as much poop into a garbage bag as I can and tie it off or dunk it in the toilet...or both.

Just wondering if there is a better way to remove more solid waste.

  • I keep saying that I am going to buy a sprayer...but for now i
    1. pee- directly into the wet pail

2, poo- rinse in running water into a dollar store bucket that sits under the tub faucet.. once the "solids" are off i dump the water in the toilet and the rinsed dipe into the wet pail...

im not sure if this is the best plan but it works... no stain or stink so far

  • Loading the player...
  • oh.. and i should mention - i tried rinsing into an old dish pan, but its too shallow and the poo water splatters into the tub... ewww...
  • I have a sprayer but when we travel, I use a large plastic cup (like the plastic ones you get in a large fast food value meal) to pour water over end down it into the toilet. When ours ready for a sprayer, you could also look into building your own (there are online instructions) using a kitchen sprayer you tie Ito your toilet water feed. We did this...DH has minimal plumbing experience, but it prob. Cost us half that.

I'll have to check it out.  Thanks!

  • I wipe with toilet paper, scrape off as much as I can, flush, then leave it in the toilet to soak, or swish. Then I squeeze it out dump it in the pail, scrub my hands good, then flush the toilet. I don't touch anything with my hand that has been in the toilet. Gross I know, but it works.
  • We use flushable liners and have since CDing day 1. If there is ever a time he poops and I forgot to previously put a liner in, I just take a plastic bag inside out and scrap whatever excess into the bag and flip, zip, and in the trash it goes!

  • Our sprayer broke yesterday in the middle of a rinse. Because I could not find a suitable replacement at the hardware store, I picked up a small bucket and a cheap slatted spatula at the grocery store. After the diaper had soaked for a few minutes I was able to scrape the solid material off, flushed, then dunked and swished the diaper again.

I really missed the sprayer, but the backup method wasn't too bad.
  • We scrape with a spatula into the toilet, then swish around the spatula in the toilet to clean it (sometimes have to wipe with toilet paper). We got our first "plop-able" poop last week and I squealed with joy. It's inconsistent though.
