Army Crawlers

Hi All-

My LO was 8 months on the 10th. She is a great little army crawler, but has no desire to crawl on hands and knees. She will rock like that, but once she decides to get moving she puts her belly to the ground. Any one else's LO not really crawling yet?

I know I am being paranid, but I had a friend send me a video of her little girl (that is 4 days older than mine) and she is alrealy walking with a push toy! Just makes me paranoid! Plus my older DD was crawling at this point.

TIA

Re: Army Crawlers

  • Yes, mine is doing the exact same thing. I know it's hard for us to compare our babies to others, but, as you know, every kid is different. She'll be all over the place in no time :)

  • Mine crawls using both arms but only one knee...she cant figure out how to do it yet with both knees down. Its the goofiest looking thing but she gets around!

Also, Alexandra was 8 months on the 12th and still has zero teeth. I am convinced she'll be toothless forever!

  • Dude, my LO isn't quite 8 months but he isn't even close! He can roll over, but has zero interest in practicing unless I make him. He'll get there eventually. :)

  • I know it's so hard, but DON"T COMPARE! I swear I was driving myself nuts with kids #1 &2. In the scope of life, a few weeks really isn't that much a of a big deal.

  • My DS will be 8months the 23rd and Now can crawl with both hands and knees and yesterday he mastered from being in a crawling position to sitting up..... unlike my DD she crawled until 8 months

  • Don't worry!  My DS army crawled until he was almost 9 months old, and my DD didn't do either until she was 11.5 months old.  Actually I was happy she wasn't moving yet - it was easier to only have to keep track of one mobile kid!  My DS didn't walk until he was 15 months old, but DD was walking at 13 months.  They do it all in their own time.
DD#2 isn't crawling yet either.  She gets up on her hands and knees but can't figure out how to move.  She ends up sitting herself back down and gets so frustrated!

DD is 8 months as of yesterday.  She's not crawling yet either.  She's been rocking.  This morning she got her belly off the ground but it was sort of a sideways lift.  I don't know how to describe it.  She still tummy scoots backwards.  I look away for a second and she ends up halfway under the couch or under the coffee table.  I can't figure out how she moves so fast.
My DD is the same way.  She'll be 8 months soon and she only goes in reverse.  She rocks on all fours and has even "stood" in a downward dog position but doesn't move forward yet.

  • DS1 army crawled until he started walking, then he figured out "regular" crawling. He walked at 9 months and crawled on his hands and knees a month or so later. DS2 will be 8 months tomorrow and has been crawling on hands and knees for less than a week, although he was army crawling/doing the worm for about a week before. Every baby figures these things out on their own time.

DD1 didn't crawl until she was 10 months old. Even then it was not a traditional crawl. It was more like a crab crawl with one foot down. She then only crawled for about a month before she started cruising along furniture.

When it comes to crawling, standing unassisted, and even walking there is a very wide age range for normal development.
