Strollers????

I have been starting to think about what stroller we should register for and have been overwhelmed with choices! My SIL highly recommends and is encouraging me to get a B.O.B. stroller because she loves her single and double one she has. However, I don't jog and don't plan on starting so I feel silly registering for a jogging stroller. I do like how it has three wheels and therefore making it easier to steer and maneuver than your typical 4 wheeled travel system. I stopped at a local baby store to ask about the strollers and the sales lady there listened to my whole story and suggested the City Mini GT. It has three good quality wheels and is lighter than the B.O.B. The City Mini GT seems to have everything I liked about the B.O.B. and everything I didn't need scaled down. Does anyone have any reviews or personal thoughts about the GT?? Or I guess if you highly recommend a different stroller let me know which one and why! . Thanks!

  • I asked this same question on facebook and the only response I got was to get a BOB, even though I expressed my distaste at the price.  Still, everyone pushed it on me and insisted I look on Craiglist.  My feeling was, if I'm buying used off of CL and spending $250 for a BOB, I'd much rather spend $250 on something comparable that was brand new.  So where I don't have a recommendation, I will be stalking this thread to see what else you get!  I'm looking for a double jogger and the Baby Trend ones weren't too high priced and seemed to get good reviews.

  • I haven't tried the GT, but I have a city mini and I love love love it. I love how light and easy to fold it is. It fits in the car easily and DD never has a problem with it. It's more compact, lighter, cheaper and just as maneuverable as a BOB imo.

  • You can't use a jogging stroller with a newborn. BOB recommend their strollers for 8 weeks and up but having used some I would be uncomfortable using it until closer to 5-6 months.
I've heard really good things about the Mini from my friends but haven't tested it.
I personally love my Uppababy stroller. Yes, it is pricier than many but after using it for 2 years, every day, multiple times a day over the potholes of New York City I would say it paid itself off. Also we have used the bassinet as a rocker for DS2's naps for almost a year.
Take a look at the pavement where you plan to use the stroller. If you mainly plan to use it in the mall and on nice suburban streets then you don't need to worry too much about maneuverability.

  • Some of the joggers have the car seat adapters, so you can absolutely use them with a new born.  And I won't be jogging til about 8 or 12 weeks anyhow, so I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

  • I'm registered for the City Mini GT.  When I nannied, the family had a city mini double and it was awesome!  my cousin has the regular city mini and that's great too.  i chose the GT though because you can adjust the handle height, which I read is the best option for tall parents (and being 5'11, that matters to me)

  • If someone is suggesting BOB then I would say the comparable options might be the Britax B-Agile or the City Mini.  We tried a BOB stroller but it was heavier (also was able to hold heavier weight load) but I'm a wimp so we loved the Britax B-Agile for it's locking mechanism is easy to use, the fact that the bar doesn't go all the way across btw the back wheels and the harness system slides up and down in one unity unlike the City Mini but we also really liked the City Mini's handlebar more.

  • I also had my eye on the City Mini, but Lucie's List convinced me to go with the Britax B-Agile instead (I'm a FTM and haven't purchased it yet, so I can't give my own review).  She claims they are incredibly similar (so much so that city mini sued for patent infringement), but the B-Agile is cheaper and you don't have to pay extra for the car seat attachment if you decide to go with the travel system.

  • I'm a FTM and don't have the experience as others but we decided on the mini GT mainly because I don't want to spend a ton of money and DH is 6'6 so the adjustable handle is a must. I tried it out in a store and it seems very sturdy and has great reviews. I think I will either buy a carseat adapter or buy the

  • Britax actually owns BOB now, so there's an adapter for their infant seats.  That said, we're going with the Britax B-Agile Stoller/B-Safe Infant Seat combo.  If you want even smaller, there's the B-Nimble, but that has 4 wheels instead of the 3 in the jogging/look a likes, but still takes a Britax Infant Seat.

Let me preface my response by saying this is my 4th baby and I have owned my fair share of strollers including the following: A Snap N Go, Maclaren umbrella stroller, BOB Revolution, BOB Revolution Duallie, Graco DuoGlider, BJ City Select and Britax B-Ready.

IMO, if you are not a jogger do not get a BOB. The recline sucks, the basket is practically non-existent and the parent console sucks. I hated taking it out and about for my daily activities due to the lack of storage, lack of recline on the seat (it adjusts with straps like backpack straps) and I couldn't put my hot drink anywhere since their cupholders are mesh and completely unsupported unless you have a water bottle in there. Also, the child tray/car seat attachment sucks as a child tray. It's directly in your child's view and too high for them to use appropriately. I will say it DOES have the best maneuverability and control of any stroller I have pushed. I loved that, but hated everything else.

My friends raved about their City Minis and I loved my City Select. I currently have a B-Ready since we sold my CS when we thought we were done with three (surprise!). I miss the BJCS so much! The Britax B-Ready is much bigger, heavier and the kid in the back can't see anything from the second seat.

Honestly, my favorite combination as a FTM was my Snap N Go with the car seat and the Maclaren umbrella stroller once they were old enough to sit up. It was so lightweight and easy to transport. It just didn't have a cup holder. If you're looking for more of a Mall stroller or a walk around the park stroller I would go with the City Mini.

Depending on the surface, it's not recommended to jog with a baby until at least 6 months to a year according to what I have read. And because the car seat makes it top heavy I have read it is not recommended to run with that attachment either. Do you have a different experience? I have been looking into this so if there is something I may have missed, i would like to know. I am always looking for more info on this topic.

I plan to run on a completely flat, straight terrain.  We have old railroad tracks that run through my county that were paved for a bike path.  It is literally completely flat and completely straight, so I see no need for concern with that.  I hadn't heard about the 6 month age limit, though, so thanks for that info.  I'll dig a little deeper.

  • I have the Bob (I don't run either) and the City Mini.  They are completely different strollers IMO.  I keep the City Mini in my car because it is so lightweight.  It's great for the mall, aquarium, zoo, etc.  The Bob is an amazing stroller for walks around the neighborhood, at the beach, etc.  It's so smooth to push and DH loves it.

I have to disagree with your comments on the BOB.  Sorry.  The recline goes almost flat (maybe you have an older version than I do?)   The basket holds at least 2 whole plastic bags of groceries, or one paper bag full.  I agree on the hot drinks, although I honestly wouldn't put a hot drink in the similarly unsupported cupholders of the City Mini (which I also own) either, or in any stroller for that matter for fear of it spilling on LO's head.  I never saw the need for a child tray so I can't comment on that.

  • We looked at strollers this weekend and loved the Britix B-Ready.  DH is 6'6'' and the height was perfect for him.  I did have one concern, the infant seat when snapped in doesn't feel as nestled in as it does with other strollers, it feels very open.  Was that an issue for anyone who has the B-Ready?  I loved the B- Agile but the height was too low for DH.  @2BWEDN2007 this is our first so is your issue with the B-Ready the space for child 2?  We are good with the weight and size of it.  @kvochka I assume you like the snap n go's height?  I have not looked at that yet.

  • I wouldn't recommend a BOB as an everyday stroller, especially if you plan to pull it in and out of a car. There are 3 wheel strollers like the Britax B-Aglie (what I registered for) and the City Mini (what I use when I sit for my neighbors) that both are very easy to collapse with one hand and they are MUCH lighter. They are also not very bulky so I find them easy to maneuver with one hand.

I'm planning to get a BOB but to use it for running and to have when I spectate DH's triathlons. For everyday, I don't feel like dealing with the bulk.

  • I have a baby trend jogging stroller that I use and it's worked great. I see no reason to spend a ton of money on a stroller. I have used a friend's city mini quite a bit and it is amazing for smooth surfaces, just not great on dirt/gravel. I love how compact it folds and how easy it is to fold! If I didn't walk so often on various surfaces I would consider getting one. I love taking walks exploring the neighborhood, and not all streets have sidewalks or wide roads around here, so I have to walk in the dirt side sometimes. So if I were you I would think about the surfaces you tend to walk on and go from there.

  • It seemed like DH and I tried out every stroller at BRU and BBB and decided to go with the Britax B-Agile. It was between that and the Chicco Cortina. We loved the maneuverability of the B-Agile and it seems to fold up smaller and easier than the Chicco. Of course as a FTM, I don't have real world experience with it yet but it seems to be a great stroller.

@KristaBelieve my only complaint is in comparison to the BJCS. The BJCS was far superior to the B-Ready. It was lighter, less bulky, took up less space in my trunk, the seats could be changed into 16 different combinations and the second seat option sat higher than the first so both kids could see out when facing forward. The B-Ready is similar to the Phil and Ted's where the second seat puts child #2's feet in the basket and has them staring directly at the butt of the seat in front of them. They can turn their heads and watch out the sides, but my son prefers to look out straight ahead and see what's coming. He screams when he is in the jump seat. Hopefully the baby won't care and I can put DS #2 in the main seat when baby is old enough to sit up. Another complaint is my kids love to touch the wheels when in the jump seat. We've had a few minor injuries due to being enthralled with the fact that the wheel is right next to them and wanting to touch it. That isn't even an option on the BJCS.

  • Sorry for the late response, I'm just reading this info. now and am having the same problem as a FTM deciding what stroller(s) to register for...Have any of you read or have personal experience with the Chicco Lightweight Plus stroller? Currently, I registered for the Chicco KeyFit 30 and this stroller fits both the infant car seat and later converts into a stroller once the child is old enough. Furthermore, it is lightweight and does not take up as much space as a traditional travel system. This stroller costs about $170. My other option is to register for a Snap N Go and possibly the City Mini or City Select, but that is the more expensive route! My husband and I test drove all of them and of course we liked all 3. He's leaving it up to me to decide what to register for and I'm still undecided!
  • I have nannied for 9 years with several family's and stollers, invest in the BOB it is worth it. It's light, easy to put in your car, easy to turn in small spaces like isles. Trust me on this one get the BOB. REI has a special a few times a year for 20% off. I got mine off Craigslist.
