Sick on day 7 of potty training - advice needed

DD has been a super trooper with potty training (two straight days w/ no accidents & two poops on the potty).  Today is PT day 7, and hasn't started off too good. She was up at 1:30 crying.  We brought her to bed with us.  She woke up at 6:30 (tried to pee in the potty, but didn't). At 7 she asked for something to drink. She drank a full cup.  Sat on the potty again at 7:20 (no pee) but she threw up all the liquid she drank.  Her appetite has been pretty low the past few days.

It is about 9:00 now, and still no pee in the potty (or undies).  I called the pediatrician's office.  They said that she is probably just holding her pee in and not to worry.  If the same thing is going on tomorrow (and no pee) to bring her in.  I'm not quite sure I agree with that advice.

So I am trying to figure out if the picky eating and not peeing are typical toddler behaviors - or a sign of actually being sick.  Sorry for all the rambling, just wanting advice on how to react.  TIA!

  • We once went to the ER after a full day of no pee (17 hours or something) and some other weird symptoms. He wet through his nighttime diaper an hour after we got there and it turned out to be nothing. However, he had been eating and drinking normally through the day. If she continues to throw up liquid or refuses to drink and has other symptoms of dehydration (no tears, dry mouth, extreme fatigue, rapid heartbeat), I'd probably take her in.

  • Thanks for the reply.  I made the mistake of typing all of her symptoms in "Dr. Google" and kidney failure popped up over and over.  I was pretty sure that kidney failure was an over reaction - but I didn't want to ignore symptoms if they were really present.  She is doing much better now. I think we are in the clear...
