Do your kids always wear actual pajamas to sleep? I prefer the cotton ones, but they are so snug that DS1 can't fit in the shirts that go with the pants that fit him. I hate the polyester flame retardant ones. They feel weird and are just a big wad of static electricity. I know the snugness of the cotton and the flame retardant stuff on the others is supposed to protect kids in fires, but I don't feel like a regular, normal fitting t-shirt is much more of a risk. They probably shouldn't be sleeping in flowy victorian nightgowns with lots of ribbons, but regular kid t-shirts and sweatpants seem fine. I feel like companies have probably been forced into making pajamas this way and parents have been manipulated into thinking this is necessary because of our litigious society. Anyway, this is the sort of thing I ponder. What are your thoughts? What do your kids wear?

After his bath DS1 usually picks out the t-shirt he wants to wear the next day and sleeps in that. He will sometimes wear cotton pajama bottoms, otherwise he just wears a diaper. Pretty much everything DS2 wears right now is like pajamas, so he just sleeps in whatever he's wearing.

This summer, DD has been sleeping in just a diaper with something (tights, a diaper cover... anything) over it to prevent her from pulling it off. She's naked on top. In the colder months, she was sleeping in two-piece cotton pj's, and in winter she wore those adorable footie ones from Carter's.

Emily loves to sleep in just her underwear. Fine with me. I think she gets hot at night.

We keep Nolan in long pant/long sleeve Hanna Andersson zup up PJs. I don't want him taking his diaper off AND he doesn't have a blanket so I worry he might be cold.

I hear ya on the uncomfortable fabric of those PJs - I wouldn't want to sleep in them!

The girls wear nightgowns. Even occasionally flowy ones. I'll take the risk that they'll catch fire lol! I've always laughed at the frame retardant thing required of pjs honestly. I seriously hope my children are never *that* close to fire and I can't imagine a situation in which they would be unless a fire starts in their bedroom. I mean, I guess it's a risk in the same way they *could* be eaten by an alligator in NJ...

This is my feeling too. If DS is that close to fire I don't think his pjs are going to make a difference.

I actually do worry about alligators, though! My parents have one that lives in the pond behind their vacation house.

LOL about the alligators! And yeah, my kids won't be that close to fire. I believe I read somewhere that the regulation on that came from when smoking was still popular and people would smoke with a sleeping baby in their arms (because that's not disturbing at all...).

I honestly think the flame retardant on pajamas is stupid. But I do agree with penguin, I think it's from people who smoke around babies/kids and not necessarily made to protect them against a house fire. Anyway, DS sleeps in actual pajamas but that's just because its what I've always bought. I'd let him sleep in whatever he wanted if he asked.

It makes sense that it's to protect kids from people smoking around them. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

He sleeps in a cotton tshirt and a diaper a lot. Or just pj shorts and nothing on top. Sometimes his pjs match

Usually a onesie. Or a onesie with pants. Depends on the weather. She also has some 2 piece sets that we like, carters brand or something.

DD sleeps in nightgowns during the summer and fleece pjs in the winter. DS wears two piece (shorts and shirt pjs) in the summer and fleece two piece pjs in the winter. DH thinks the kids can go to bed in regular clothes, but that just doesn't seem comfortable to me so they sleep in pjs unless DH happens to put them to bed.

DS1 wears cotton pajamas, SD alternates between pajamas, nighties, or tank tops and leggings. DS2 wears a onesie, or sleeper, or both, depending on the temperature.

My 4 year old son sleeps in the cotton play shorts from Gap and a t shirt. My 3 year old daughter sleeps mostly in nightgowns, and the baby sleeps in pajamas.

DD1 alternates between three jammies, a Hello Kitty nightgown and a couple if short/t shirt type. She won't wear anything else, even in winter (but it's never really winter in DFW).

DD2 wears short /t shirt jammie sets until it cools off, then it's long pant long sleeve sets.

DS wears baby footie sleepers.

My whole family smoked when I was a baby. The odds of me going up in flames 34 years ago were probably pretty high. Now, not so much.

ETA: we don't smoke, so that probably helps

DS sleeps in PJ shorts orants and a tshirt. DD prefers nightgowns. She wears mostly nightgowns in the summer and then a mix of those and pjs in the winter. She has a few long sleeve fleece nightgowns for winter.

Does a diaper and cover count as pajamas?

She either sleeps in just a diaper and cover or a onesie or t-shirt. She has some Dora pajamas that she loves and will sometimes wear those but most of the time the few clothes the better.

She uses her blanket for cuddling and I cover her with another but by morning she's not covered usually.

In the summer, DD actually sleeps naked or in undies. Her room gets pretty hot? And several years ago, overnight, she ended up taking off her clothes. Every since then she's asked if she can not wear anything. She's a big sweater, so she's uncomfortable in clothes if it's hot.

In the winter, she either wears cotton PJ's or just cottony pants (like leggings?) and a long sleeved shirt. It's hard to find PJ's for her because her upper body is a different size than her bottom. And it's not always easy to find PJ's that aren't sets.

Dd1 sleeps in Gap or Carter's pjs, usually the snug ones, and occasionally she sleeps in a nightgown. Dd2 still sleeps in zip-up, footie pjs.

DS will not sleep in PJ's. I bought him some cute ones whne he was little and he never wore them again once he was able to get them off himself. I usually put him in underwear and just call it a day unless its cold.If it's cool I put a t-shirt on him. He ALWAYS wakes up 100% naked. I guess he just takes his underwear off at night. He does have cotton PJ pants and shirts for MIL's house. ::sigh:: he still takes them off in the middle of the night but it sometimes gets him to keep the underwear on at least.

Her room gets fairly cold, but because of her eczema, I don't like her to NOT sleep in pajamas. (She will scratch herself in her sleep) We do typically compromise and do long pants and a tee-shirt pajama set (usually Gymboree) But when her eczema isn't flared up or I am lazy to do laundry usually it is knit shorts and a t-shirt.

PJs run so small. DS1 sleeps in size 4 PJs, but wears a 2T in clothes. The baby just sleeps in a onesie still.

Does Nolan just not have a blanket (I'll send him one if he doesn't have his own) or is it for safety reasons? Just curious.

Hadley always sleeps in pajamas, even if she's in a comfortable cotton outfit (which she normally is) I feel bad if I don't change her, don't know why. Normally it's Carters 2 piece pajamas, but I do still put her in footed ones just due to the cute factor.

Anymore they usually wear PJ bottoms (DS1 loves fleece ones, even in summer) and old t-shirts. DS1 also hates the tight tops, but DS2 doesn't mind them. T
