4 periods a year?

I just got my first period in more than 2 years (because of PG and BF) and I had forgotten how much it sucks! I've heard about a birth control pill that makes you have only 4 periods a year. There's also a DIY method (directed by a doctor, of course) where you take the ordinary pill but you don't rest for the 7 days you're supposed to. Does anyone take any of those?

  • I don't have info, but I hope someone does. I'm interested in this as well.

What is Nexplanon? The shot or the implant? I want something easily reversible because I will TTC next year.
You can have a lot of spotting with that method. Of course not everyone does but, it's the common side effect. The Nexplanon often stops all periods and is worry free for three years. Maybe look into that?

  • Yeah, I would definitely talk to my OB about it, I just read this in a magazine and thought to give it a shot, but not without the go from my doc.
I know some women skip the period week pills for thing like their wedding. But I don't think its healthy to do it all the time.

It's the implant. It was really easy to remove and insert with next to no side effects. I had it in for 9 months before TTC and I got my periods back right away.
Thanks! I will ask my doctor about it. I have a friend who gained a lot of weight with it, but I think it depends on the person...

  • I've been on Microgestin - it's the newest low estrogen pill since Low-E and I have no periods. I take the pills back to back, skipping the off week, and haven't had my period in 8 months or more. I only spotted around the time I would normally get my period months 1 and 2. My sister has been on Low-E for like 5 years and has never had a period.

I have experienced zero side effects. No weight-gain, headaches, nothing. :)

  • I took the four period pill religiously. This resulted in my first child :) I have an iud now.

  • I am on Depo and was on it for years before the kids.  I didn't have any problem with weight gain before kids but have been having an issue with losing weight post-DS.  I think it has more to do with my metabolism tanking due to my age though.  I really like not having a period or PMS at all!  I know there are some women that don't have nearly as much luck with Depo as I have had.

  • I am also on depo and have not had a period. No issue with weight gain or hair falling out, but I think it has made me moody. The FDA apparently dosn't recommend it for long term use due to a bone density issue. There is also a chance it can take awhile to get pregnant again after stopping. I don't know, I havn't had any major issues with it but I will probably switch soon.

  • I took Seasonale (sp?) for years.  Loved it!  I think I had breakthrough bleeding only once.  After coming off it, it took me 7 months to get pregnant with DD (I was charting), not sure if that was related or not.  But it was seriously awesome!
  • I am on my 3rd IUD (Mirena) After about the first year you don't get a period except for some occasional spotting.  But I did notice you still get PMS.  I would get horrible mood swings and sometimes a little cramping and bloating about once a month, but at least I wasn't bleeding.

For the first 6 months or so though, you have heavier than normal periods (in most cases).

I can't take pill form BC, I would have a million kids from forgetting my pill.
