C-sections

Scheduling RCS

Hi ladies!  I'm due January 6th and having a RCS.  My doctor told me at my last appointment that the hospital will schedule it at 39 weeks, and it will likely be Dec 31 or Jan 2.  I don't really have a preference, and will go with what they tell me.

However, I'm just curious how much say you had in the date of your scheduled C?

Re: Scheduling RCS

  • I didn't and don't have a lot of say in the date.  My Dr. has a specific "day" that is blocked for his surgeries.  Also, The LOVELY hospital policies mandate that they will only allow a section up to one week prior to due date unless an emergency.

  • Just a thought but if you deliver on December 31st you will avoid another deductible and will be able to get a tax deduction.

That's true.  My doctor did say that the 31st was a particularly busy day for RCS.
  • I was able to choose Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday after 39 weeks, because those were the days my practice could schedule at the hospital.  My choice of date determined which OB did the surgery.  Of course all my plans went out the window when my water broke early!

  • My OB wanted it done in the 39th week, so I picked the Monday of that week, so I'll be in the hospital while DD was in school. I also got to request that I'm the first c/s of the day {besides emergency ones of course} just bc I was the first person to pick that date.
  • I didn't get a say, the office staff set it up according to the doctor and hospitals schedules.
  • I got to chose the date based on the days that my OB was doing surgeries. With my last I really wanted a specific date so my OB was nice enough to accommodate me.

  • I had zero say. My doctor only works at my hospital of choice one day a week, so I delivered at 39 wks and 3 days.

  • The hospital here doesn't let you go past 39 Weeks. I spoke with my OB at my 28 week appt, and she put me on the schedule for 39 Weeks in the dot. There's no surgeon scheduled for that day yet, and I'm the first person on the schedule for that day so far.

  • My doc picked a date after 39 weeks and I asked about the next day (since it was a Friday). She said ok and that's what we went with. I 'd push for dec 31st for the tax benefit for sure!!!

  • I get to pick whatever date that I want.  There is no accounting for which doc I will get, but I know who I want, and will purposefully schedule with her.
They will let me pick baby's birthday as well.  They won't schedule (without medical purpose) a RCS before 39 weeks.

  • My due date is 9/8 they will only allow for a rcs up to one week prior but then it falls on a holiday weekend so the Monday following was not an option, they wanted Tuesday but its my DS first day of school and I want to take him so they agreed on Wednesday... That makes me 39 weeks 3 days, fingers and legs crossed I make it!
  • I got almost complete say on mine, oddly enough, but I think that was only due to my OB scheduling it far in advance. He told me the earliest and latest he would let me go, and to pick a day in there. I asked for the absolute last date he'd let me go, and they checked to make sure the first one of the day for that day was open, and it was, so that's where I'm slotted, bright and early December 6th, where I'll be 39 weeks and 6 days.

  • I told them that I wanted it on Monday 39 w 1 day and they scheduled it for Monday. I think if it had not worked for my Dr. we would have discussed it.

  • For me, I had to be at least 39 weeks. The ob I wanted to deliver ds was on vacation the I turned 39 weeks. So 3 days later when she was back, I had the csection. I was able to choose the date for my last one as well.

  • They let me pick the date.  First choice was 10/10 because it's easy, but it was booked.  Picked 10/9 specifically because it was the only other date my surgeon of choice was available.
