Stay at Home Moms

Las Vegas People

DH and I are going to LV in a couple weeks to celebrate our anniversary. We've been before but I'd love suggestions for food, shows (not Cirque, we did that last time and DH hated it, he fell asleep) or anything else. We are staying at the Mirage. TIA!

Re: Las Vegas People

  • We are going this weekend. I've never been before but I hit up groupon for some things to do. We got a big city bus tour and tickets to the csi experience both for half off. We also plan to visit the mob museum, pinks hot dogs and we have reservations at Toby Keith's I love this bar and grill. Have fun!

  • Groupon is a great idea, thanks!
  • If you like seafood, I had a great meal at RM Seafood in Mandalay Bay. It is all sustainable seafood too, if you care about that

H had a great meal at Carnevino - it's Mario Batali's Italian steakhouse

  • We LOVE Vegas, we go every year for our anniversary and we ALWAYS stay at The Mirage. Great hotel in the best location! :) We always eat at BLT Burger and Happy Hour at Japonais (sp?!?) in the Mirage and we did a fancy date night at Stack a few years ago and walked out happy but poor! ha! Breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi in The Paris hotel was delicious. Nobu at Ceasars is probably MY all time favorite but DH isn't big on Sushi/Fish so it's been a few years since we've been back. Joe's Seafood is also fantastic!

I could go on and on...

We love Cirque, especially the musical shows like Elvis so I'm no help there. What about a concert? Or a night helicopter tour?

We've done every experience there: wax museum, CSI, Titanic (really awesome!), Dolphin Habitat, walking the Bellagio Conservatory, you name it. They are all great ways to get out and have some fun and I second the suggestion to look at Groupon and for online coupons.

Oh! And don't forget to utilize the red buses that drive up and down the strip. They are cheap and it eliminates so much walking in the dead heat of the day.

I'm so jealous, I can't wait to go back. Have a fantastic trip!

I'm so happy to help. If you have any specific questions about an experience or a restaurant or anything, please ask. I can't possibly list everything we've done but am happy to provide my $0.02. :)

  • Sushi Samba, Bouchon, and Bouchon Bakery were my absolute favorites when we went last summer.  All of those are in the Venetian/Palazzo, which is pretty much across the street from the Mirage.  We aren't really "show" kind of people, so we didn't hit up any, but we walked for miles a day.  Between the Forum Shops at Caesars, and The Canal shops at the Venetian, we were never bored, and didn't see half of what we could have seen if it hadn't been 120 degrees - the coldest it got was 100 degrees, and that was in the middle of the night. We had rooms at Treasure Island, which is basically next door to Mirage, and there is a free tram the connects them.  There are some really cool restaurants in the Forum Shops at Caesars, but we never got to eat there.

My biggest advice is get the Open Table app for your phone, and if you walk by a restaurant you want to eat at, search for it, and reserve a table.  I had no problems getting reservations, even 2 hours before we ate, and it meant no waiting, and it literally took 30 seconds to a minute to do.

  • I went once when i.was like 14 or 15 so like 10 years ago. We went indoor skydiving which was fun. We also went on these rides on that needle hotel. Im forgetting the name of it.
We stayed at mandalay bay and that was a nice hotel.
  • I love all the great advice, thank you everyone!  mrswright - i'm looking up those restaurants now.
  • if you like hibachi, take a cab off strip and go to musashi at paradise and flamingo, just make a res ahead of time. i second sushi roku. also off strip, but sen of japan and naked fish are yummy sushi spots. last off strip spot i'll rec is balchi burger, but i know it's tough to get off strip when you're only on a brief vacay.

love boterao at wynn/encore (i can never remember which) and am a big fan of wynn buffet. never been but everyone raves about e by jose andres.

    bouchon for breakfast is delicious.

  • We're actually thinking about going for a conference in late September. I plan on spending a lot of time by the pool drinking frozen drinks. :)
  • The steakhouse at the Bellagio is really yummy.

    I'm trying to convince DH to renew our vows barefoot and pregnant style. {We actually eloped and got married in Vegas 10 years ago on the 30th of this month}

Sounds like a good idea to me! 10 years is a big milestone. We planned this trip to celebrate 5 years. What made you decide to elope the 1st time around?
