Sleep reassurance

So Madeline has a cold and woke up with a little fever this morning. She needed help the past two nights sleeping so we went back to rocking and nursing almost every 2 hours. I can deal with being tired, but I worry because we did mild sleep training about a month ago. However, my instincts tell me that getting her to sleep is the most important thing right now- self-soothing be damned. I'm nervous that I'm sending her mixed messages and that's not fair. For example, she just woke up mid-nap from coughing. As soon as I picked her up and bounced and swayed with her, she fell back to sleep. Am I setting us up to have to sleep train again? Once was enough :(

Re: Sleep reassurance

  • I agree with PP. Trust your gut and ic getting her to sleep feels most important then that's what you do. Sleep training won't work when your little one is sick or or over tired. She just needs her mommy right now

all bets are off when they are sick.  She needs rest to heal.  Worry about "bad habits" later.
This. Over the next couple of years, lots of things will happen to throw off sleep habits. Milestones, teeth, vacations or other trips, illness, vaccinations, or heck, just a bad day. Many times these will throw a wrench in the works for a couple of nights and then things will go back to how they were. Sometimes you may have to sleep train again if you want to get back to where you were.
