Not interested in milestones!

Happy Monday everyone! I was catching up from this weekend and saw all the awesome milestones everyone's babies are reaching (yay! fun!). Just to make the late bloomers feel better, Little Lexie is setting the bar low, which is totally fine with us since she is otherwise healthy. So far, she has expressed absolutely zero interest in the following:
Her feet
Rolling over, either way
Grabbing at toys
Batting at toys
Laughing, though she does smile
Following Mommy's voice (though her hearing is fine)

I've found that low expectations are the key to contentedness. :)

Re: Not interested in milestones!

  • I love this post. I wasted so much energy worrying about milestones with my son. He always ended up hitting whatever milestone I was worried about so I'm trying not to freak out about everything with DS2. He hates tummy time, no interest in rolling or playing with toys. He'd be happy is if I held him 24/7. He has no interest in independent play or sleep for that matter.

  • My LO (born June 3) also has zero interest in rolling over or spending more than 2 minutes on tummy time. But her smiles are adorable, she loves to snuggle, and she holds her head up very well!

  • You're so right. We can get so caught up in the who can do what palaver. They all get there in the end.

  • J couldn't care less about rolling over and he will be 14 weeks wed! He will roll on his side to get close to me so I think it's more lack of incentive than anything, lol.

  • One of the very few silver linings in having a preemie is that I can't expect my little guy to be on par with other babies his age for a while.  It removes so much stress.

  • I felt so behind after reading those posts and my baby is a mid-may baby. He doesn't roll over, hasnt found his feet, doesn't bat at toys or try to hold them. My first LO did all of those things by now so I have to remind myself all babies are different, even siblings.

  • This just reminded me to read the Month Four chapters in my two baby development books. Are they supposed to be finding their feet? She kicks them a ton but no hand-foot contact. And her hands don't interact with one another unless she's trying to shove both in her mouth at once. But she is constantly getting more coordinated and more verbal so I'm not worried.

  • Same here! All these milestones and posts had me so anxious! My LO is 14 weeks and doesn't roll over, she doesn't grab at her feet and doesn't grab her toys. She's definitely behind on tummy time and holding her head up because she hates tummy time. She smiles and laughs all the time so I'm not too worried. I'm sure she'll reach all her milestones when she's ready. Good to know my LO isn't the only one a little behind.:-)
  • If you all are late May mamas, I'd say none of you are behind! S was born at the beginning of the month and only NOW are we getting her to even attempt at holding her head up during tummy time. She hasn't even thought about rolling over, I think she might've have just seen her feet this morning, and hasn't tried to grab a toy unless we hold it in front of her. But, she's trying to sit up, so I think she's making progress. I used to get all freaked out about her not reaching milestones, but I've had to let go of that control issue since she's on her own timetable.

  • @AllieAGame this is why you are one of my favorite posters! I've been a little stressed that E isn't lifting her head up during tummy time. She absolutely hates it so its hard for me to make her do it for longer periods of time.

I know eventually she'll get there!
  • Thank you for posting this! My little guy is the same way and I worry about it all the time. Good to know that he's not really behind!

C won't lift his head during tummy time either. He just lies face first into the blanket and cries. But he lifts his head otherwise.
Guess some babies really hate that position.
