Video monitor recs needed

The power cord to our video monitor frayed and is shooting blue sparks. Yikes! I need to go get a new one tomorrow. We have a Summer Infant one now. Not looking to drop a ton on a new one and would need to buy in store. Thanks for your help!

I use trendnet security cams (wireless day n night).. love them.   love the fact they can be monitored and controlled over our android phones.

We use this one. It works well and is much cheaper than summer infant. You can add up to four cameras but it comes with one. You have to press a button to switch from camera to camera though so for us it works because I have one in the playroom and dd's room so I don't always have to set up a new one. It wouldn't be great if you were trying to watch multiple kids in separate rooms at night because it wouldn't automatically switch to the room that makes sound. Like I said though - for us it's great and the price is right. Has both day and night vision and automatically switches to the appropriate setting. Has an option to stay silent unless there is a noise in the baby's room (so you don't have to listen to white noise all night) Only one complaint - while the monitor holds a good charge (2 hrs I think but am not sure) it only blinks a light if the battery is low (doesn't make a sound) so if it's not plugged in and you have it on for a long time you might not notice it turned off.

Is it possible to just get a new power cord?

DH ran over our SI power cord with the vacuum and killed it before dd even came home.  I would try to get a new cord.  Even if you pay next day shipping, you would be ahead of buying a whole new unit.

  • Ha! New power cord...duh. I actually ended up getting the SI one with the handheld color monitor that allows you to move the camera. Our other one was an older SI model with the biggest monitor you ever saw. I'm not sad it crapped out, actually. This one even shows the temperature! I'm so high tech now :)

Maybe order the power cord anyway and then eBay the whole thing to recoup some of the cost of the new one!

Awesome idea! I think I'll list on Craigslist and just say it works except you need a new AC adapter. I could prob get $30 for it.

Nice! I think that is the new version of ours. We really like it.

  • I just wanted to say steer clear of Samsung. We bought their $200+ model and 5 months in the sound quit on the camera itself, so all I hear over the monitor is static. The video quality is still great, but.. yea. Not so great with out sound.
