Swaddle weaning

When are you weaning from the swaddling?

My LO doesn't get swaddled during the day and she naps 2.5 to 3 hours. We only swaddle her at night when she gets fussy. Once she gets up for the first feeding in the night after about 4 to 5 hours I leave her arms out and she seems fine. Just curious about your swaddle routines..

Re: Swaddle weaning

  • My lo napped unswaddled fine for the first 5 weeks but now he won't nap unless he's in a woombie or on me/in the sling. At night he is in the miracle blanket. I'm dreading weaning from the swaddle. I've heard you can start with one hand...

  • I usually only swaddle at night in the halo we got from the hospital.  I leave it loose enough that she usually wiggles her arms out by the time she wakes.  She seems to only need it when she is first layed flat in her crib...to get past the crazy arms ;)
  • We only swaddle DS at night. He is fine during naps without it so hopefully it won't be much of a problem when we (or he) decide to stop.

With DD we stopped swaddling around 2 mo because she would continuously break out of them so we figured she didn't like it. She slept fine without from then on, no weaning necessary.

  • My guy always breaks his hands free. Never much like the swaddle. It's been too hot to swaddle a lot since he's been born, but lately I'm sticking him in a swaddle me at night and its helping him sleep for longer stretches. Thank god. His hands and arms are free by the time he wants to eat, but it's helping. Going to do it as long as its working.
  • We stopped swaddling DS a week ago. He's been doing fine during the night. It''s so hot in our house and he loves sleeping with his hands up by his face.
  • When he can roll. Before then you'll have to rip it from my cold, sleep deprived & coffee crazed hands

We use the swaddle me too and I think it's what helps her do that long stretch at night. I'm too scared to try the sleep without it haha!

  • This and I love you :)
With Ds1 he was almost 5 months before he was swaddle free. He love love loved the swaddle.
To wean, we started with 1 arm out for a week or so to see how it went. Then we wrapped around his belly both arms Out for extra snugness for about a week. Then we just used the sleep sack only bc it was February.
We used it longer than recommended with ds1 but he freaked when we tried earlier.
This LO also loves the swaddle. He wants /needs swaddle for sleep including naps or he won't call down. The only other way to sleep not swaddle is in the sling or if I immediately put him in the Carseat and leave for my errands etc

    PgAL/PAL welcome, always!
  • We plan on swaddling until her Moro Reflex starts to disappear (usually around 2mo). If we don't swaddle her, her arms are crazy and she whacks herself in the face and wakes herself up.

this. both my kids have needed full on straight jacket miracle blanket swaddle. no way we are dropping it until its a safety issue bc of rolling.

  • We use a halo with arms out at night to ensure she stays warm. I havent talked with my husband, but I'm sure we will continue to do so until she out grows all options.

  • Out of curiosity, BTDT moms, what did your babies sleep in once they stopped being swaddled?

Just footed sleepers. I did a sleep sack for one or two nights but I found that we did not really need it. But we live in Texas so we don't deal with extreme cold really.
