Ok so my bday is in a week blah bleh whatever. Were supposed to have friends over for drinks and jambalaya on Sunday and to let the kids play. This is the thing I've been in a huge funk for various reasons and im really not looking forward to having company on my bday.
A) I'll be the one doing all the cooking
2) im pretty positive i'll be doing all the clean up afterwards
C)I'm in the kind of funk that I just dont feel like pretending to be "all fine" and "happy" around anyone.

So should this buttercup just suck it up and go with it or cancel all together and spare myself the headache of party prep.

  • I pretty  much agree with Emily.  I totally get the pre-birthday funk, but suspect that cancelling won't actually make you feel better.

Maybe just simplify your plans so it's not as much work for you?  Order pizza or take takeout...use paper plates/cups/whatever and put up a couple of huge trash bags.    Should take care of most of it.  :-)

  • I hope to get out of it too, its becoming a huge pain in my ass. It's just taking a lot to muster up the excitement to do all this shit for other people on MY birthday kwim? I'm totally being a three year old right now. image

  • Cajun, I'm with you. It's YOUR day; you shouldn't have to play hostess if you don't want to! If you're dreading it this much, it's unlikely you'll even allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy it by accident. It's a set up for a disappointing bday! Do what YOU want, and get yourself out of this funk! A sink full of other people's dirty dishes wouldn't get me excited either. Just my two cents.

That's excatly how I feel Sally!!!!! I'm thinking a alone day sounds much more fun than cooking and cleaning up after other people.

This was my thought too.  It's your birthday, so you should get to do what you want and not have to cook for and clean up after people.

  • Maybe you need something fun to get you out of your funk. I feel like drinks and jambalaya should help!

  • I voted for cancel. It's your birthday and you should do what you want. Maybe you could switch the plans to something where you can go out and have some fun. Leave the mess at a restaurant and have some drinks! It's your day!
