How do you care for LO when you are sick?

Hi ladies-

So I'm new to the SAHM world and I have a 16-week old little girl.  I have been feeling awful for the last 36 hours.  I think I have a stomach bug or food poisoning.  We don't have any family in town and DH works long hours.  Luckily, he is off today but currently at an interview.  Other than feeding DD, I have been putting her in her swing, bouncy seat, etc. away from me.  She has been crying most of today since we usually play or I hold her (she isn't one of those babies that is content by herself).  I don't want to play with her since I don't know if I'm contagious and I can't hold her because I have very bad back pain right now.  So, what do you do when you are sick??  DH works 12 hours tomorrow...really hoping this passes by tomorrow morning.  I just want MY mom!

  • I just lay down where he's playing so I can interact without using much energy. I let the older kids go on their computers more than I normally would. Movies play almost constantly.

    Basically, it's survival mode.

  • You're doing what I would do.  Interesting you post this because I am dealing with some serious vertigo and it makes things really hard.  I was extremely desperate earlier this summer and I called a friend to take DD.  Do you know anyone (ANYONE?) you could call?  I found many people were willing to take DD when I told them I felt awful, most said to just call.  Even a short little bit would allow you to nap.  Other than that, I practically threw DD at DH when he got home and went to bed.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I lock off an area and add entertainment to the area that doesn't need my help - tv, age appropriate toys, some things they love playing with that are safe (tupperware and lids, etc.) ... We don't have family close either. Good luck!

  • Do you have a play mat or anything else you can put her in? She might just need some variety from the swing. If I'm sick and there is no one to help out its survival mode. Lots of quiet activities (or at this age, tv and iPad) so I can just lay down. I've gotten totally desperate before and locked us in my bedroom with toys and slept knowing DS was safe.
