Feel like I might throw up

I just threw out 60+ ounces of pumped milk :(

We were away from the weekend and just came home to find that our cat had pried open the freezer door (freezer is on the bottom) and pulled a bunch of food out and the door stayed ajar. Everything (freezer was full tithe brim) is completely thawed and a room temp. I just tossed the bags and bags of milk. That was several weeks worth of pumping after every time I nursed DD. my entire stash in the trash can. And I go back to work in two weeks.

  • Oh no!! I'm so sorry. I would have killed the cat.

  • Oh no! That gives me anxiety for you! At least you go back in 2 weeks and not tomorrow! You'll be able to build a little bit of a stash. I'm so sorry! :(

If that was my cat, it would be dead right now

And I would bring the cat back to life just to kill it again.
    This exactly!

  • Yikes...crazy cat! I would definitely cry...I'm so so sorry! You'll be able to get the stash built up again. Even though I didnt believe it when people told me, you really only NEED enough for that first day. But, cry until you feel better-I'd be devastated too. Sooooo much work goes into pumping

  • Wow, that is horrible! I'm so sorry. I would have been so upset!!!
  • Pump every morning right after the first time you feed her for the day. You will be able to produce more then and build your stash back up quicker. I'm sorry, that totally stinks :-(
  • Hugs. I would have thrown up. And cried. And then opened a bottle of wine.

Oh no. That sucks! Don't feel like you need a freezer stash though. Try not to stress too much; you'll make enough milk for your baby

That is awful, so sorry! I agree with this though... You probably don't even need a freezer stash unless you are having issues with supply.

  • Thanks for the sympathy ladies. The cat is still alive but I can't bring myself to look at him. I know I don't *need* a stash but it sure felt good knowing I had some back up. I have two weeks until I'm back to work but its just one evening and one day a week. I'm hoping I can build a little up so I can at least get through the first week and have a bit to spare just in case pumping at work doesn't go well.
  • This is horrifying. I would skin the cat alive.

Has the cat ever done this before??? I can just picture your cat, plotting since the first time he saw you put delicious milk in the "big cold box". He has spent the past 4 months plotting and planning and waiting for the perfect opportunity to get his paws on that liquid heaven! When he heard the words "weekend vacation", he knew THIS was his one and only shot! It was now or never and he would die trying if he had to! OR!!! He is evil like I believe all cats to be and decide to sabotage baby's one source of survival in order to have things go back to normal. Lol

Haha. I would normally find this funny but I am still so ticked at the cat. He has never opened the fridge or freezer before but we do have to be careful with our food. We can't leave anything out on the counter, the pantry doors have to be latched and I even have to watch the groceries while I'm putting them away (he once ripped into & started eating a bag of frozen broccoli while I was making trips in and out of the house unloading the car and I have lost many loaves of bread like that too). I swear we feed him enough he is just the ultimate scavenger!
