When she needs a little hydration, I use coconut oil. Most lotions have a lot of crap in them that isn't good for such delicate skin. There's a naturalist theory out there that if you use too much lotion on an infant, their skin never learns how to make its own oils. Not sure if its true, but it makes sense and seems to be working with both my kids. ::shrugs::

  • Loading the player...
  • Just her cheeks n chin are dry from drool and gets occasional red rash...dr said to use unscented lotion as needed but I forgot to ask for kinds
  • I use a few different kinds...Burt's bee, method baby, honest company, episcential. All are things I've used on DD and her skin is fine.

  • My pedi recommends eucrin lotion... I still use the Johnson's though, although I only do a little after a bath since she seems dry then
  • What about using aquaphor on her cheeks and chin to help prevent drying from all the drool?
  • @Jss1482 I usually use Johnsons have for months but I stopped a.few weeks then I started again and she was getting this red rash so I stopped..I also was using different brand of diapers and different detergent all at same time..so Idk which actually caused rash
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I use Burt's Bee's and will only be using that at least for a little while, my LO has eczema and not sure what caused a reaction.  I've used Aveeno once, and Johnson's a few times but won't be using either of those for awhile, I need to let his eczema clear up before I try either of those again to see if they are the culprit.
  • Aquaphor is great for the chin rash. If you're looking for something similar without petrolatum, BabyGanics makes a REALLY nice skin protectant that is cheaper and has less chemicals.

  • Coconut oil but the purple desitin if he gets serious diaper irritation.
  • I use aden & anais mum & bub lotion and love it.  Smells so good and is gentle on my baby's skin.

  • Love the Burt's Bees 'Calm' lavender & vanilla after a bath every few days. Smells so good!
  • I use homemade goat milk lotion a few nights a week after bath. I returned ALL Johnson and Johnson crap that we were gifted. Couldn't pay me to put that stuff on M

  • Aveeno, but rarely. Like maybe twice. We try not to put any "stuff" on him but we are also lucky that he has pretty good skin.

  • Burt's Bees every once in a long while. He has had one dry small patch on his leg and I used coconut oil on it and it went away in a day.

  • Gold Bond lotion was the only lotion that my dad could use when his skin was sensitive and raw from his chemo treatments. When I asked my pedi if it would be okay to use onLO he said absolutely. It's great for his sensitive skin and helps relieve and soften his eczema on his tummy so much better than any baby lotion I have tried. I love it for myself too. Super smooth!

  • We use Baby Magic daily after bath time.

I have some Johnson and Johnson in the drawer we haven't used in awhile.  I haven't heard of any issues with it but it looks like there may be...can you fill me in?

A lot of the chemicals in it are pretty toxic. Check the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database.

Sorry if I keep beating a dead horse or bringing this up in different posts(I've been consumed with research)but here we are using organic this, organic that, natural lotions because Johnson's has toxic ingredients yet no one is questioning or upset about the fact that we are injecting our Children with extremely toxic substances for the"greater good". I'm not against vaccines- I just think there has to be a safer alternative compared to all the toxic ingredients in them! If we need them so badly, don't you think we should stand up an fight for safer vaccines?
Well, right now as a parent I can make a choice between a natural lotion vs. a lotion full of chemicals because of the advances our society has made, so I do. Unfortunately, vaccines will probably never be "organic" in the sense you're talking about, but they are still a FAR better option to deadly childhood diseases.

Its like the toothbrush; technically a toothbrush slowly scrubs away the enamel on your teeth, but not brushing your teeth would cause them to rot out of your head significantly faster. Until they come up with a less damaging way to brush your teeth, you weigh your options and do what's best.

  • I had never ever heard of people not vaccinating (call me ignorant) or first time mom. I just thought you "have to" never thought it was an option or that it was harmful until I read it on here. I confess I did not reasearch the topic at all like I said before to me it is just something you need. But it is interesting to me that I was oblivious to this topic! Where have I been???lol

@sol1790-you absolutely have a choice. Do your research and since you were looking for good reading material- I would recommend a book I'm currently reading titled What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations, by Stephanie cave. It's strictly informative and does not attempt to sway you in any one direction. Each chapter is dedicated to each single vaccine and offers a lot of other information.

    @cece2682 thank you!! Defenetly will!

Unless there is some newer version that I can't seem to find, that book is 12 years old at this point and may not be the most accurate/up to date resource for something in such a fast developing field. The author is also a supporter of the vaccination/autism link, which has been widely discredited for years now.
