3rd Trimester

Anything else I can do for a cold?

I am only on day 3 of this cold and it just seems to be getting worse instead of better :( My 1 year old is sick and so is my 5 year old. My husband works a lot, so there isn't a lot of time for me to rest. I am drinking oj,using a humidifier, taking my vitamins, eating oranges and drinking V8....ANYTHING else I can do? I am desperate! I need to feel at least somewhat better. Walking just from one room to another seems to make me light headed and weak :( TIA

  • I know this sounds like a crazyperson giving you crazy advice, but this something my doctor recommended to me years ago and it works for me: Before you go to sleep (either for the night or just a nap), slather Vicks on the bottoms of your feet and then pull on some old socks. It helps with congestion. Don't ask me why.

  • If you are really congested, try a saline nasal spray. Nasty stuff, but really does the trick!

  • Vicks on the chest in addition to your feet helps, too, just make sure and wash it off in the morning. Hot water with honey is good if you have a cough, honey is a natural cough suppressant. If you have time what with chasing after kiddos, a hot bath can be helpful - the warm water relaxes your muscles, and the steam helps with congestion.

  • I had two colds this pregnancy. This is what I used. A Netipot helps with congestion! They are weird to get used to though. Tea with honey, Tylenol, allergy medicine, or Tylenol cold medicine. Cough drops with menthol and Vicks rub.
  • Netipot. Kicks any cold for me in 2-3 days. A friend is a doctor and she tells all patients, even those who could take any meds they want to, to do a netipot for a few days before anything else.

  • Thanks ladies! The Netipot freaks me out, so I don't think I can do that! lol But I will definitely try the vicks on my feet and chest! Also, not sure why I didnt think of drinking tea with honey?! See, I think the sleep deprivation has kicked in...that is why I came here! Ha!
