3rd Trimester

Baby joints popping in womb?

I'm 33 weeks and every now and then when my very active DD makes a big movement in the womb, I hear a soft high pitch "pop" or "crack". It's sounds just like someone popping their pinky finger. My mom mentioned that I was the same way when she was PG with me and says it's probably the baby's joints popping since her bones and ligaments are developing.
Anyone else notice this?

  • Yeah, this has been happening to me for a while. I talked to my OB and they said there is no way to really know for sure but the general medical consensus is that is the joints/ligaments. It's really weird though!

Yup, I have that too. It's not your baby, it's your bones!

It's the pubis symphis (sp?) bone loosening where it's attached with cartlidge together. I've read you can tell by a mom's pelvic bones how many children she's had due to the scarring there like rings on a tree, thankfully for me, it hasn't been painful, but it's weird to know what's happening.

No, it can definitely be your baby and its really easy to tell the difference. Ask your OB or research it.
  • What freaks me out is that this is the same popping sound that I heard when my water broke with my first baby! So every time I hear it, I wait for a gush! lol

  • omg that made lol really bad idk why haha
  • Glad I'm not the only one! It's definitely the baby not me because I don't feel anything and it happens when the baby moves and I'm usually sitting or lying down so I notice it more.
  • Yes, I've had it with all three pregnancies and it only happens when baby moves. It is their little joints popping!
