Um, I'm not entirely sure this is the right place for me to post since I won't really be a 'working mom' for 5 more months, but it's the only job-related boards I see so.
I'm a manager at a fast food restaurant and while it's definitely not the worst job in the world, I'm really starting to hate it. I feel really disrespected by coworkers and other managers and I'm not really making enough to cover everything that needs covered. So I really want to find a new job.
My question is this, being 4 months pregnant, am I obligated to inform potential employers at the interview? (I'm not showing). Is it okay to wait until I get hired at a new place or is that disrespectful? I don't have a degree so any job I find will probably be fast food or retail, although I'm really trying to find a receptionist job or something. Since it's likely any job I find might involve a lot of physical labor should I just go ahead and be up front about it?
Or, would it make more since to stay at my job and just look for a new one while I'm on maternity leave?
I was just hoping for some advice since I have no friends who are working mothers (or any friends with kids at all actually).
Re: Job hunting
I wouldn't mention anything about being pregnant until they offer you the job. Then you mention it and go from there.
However, I before jumping into the job hunting scene- a few questions for you to consider- Your health benefits- are they through your current job, or through a spouse's job?
The places you are looking at- do they offer benefits? What are their policies on FLMA? What about short term disability?
I have had lots of friends look for jobs while pregnant, and they usually looked for a few months while not showing or while they were able to hide it, but once they really started showing, they took a break from job searching and waited until the baby was born.
There really isn't a right or wrong answer, its more of question on what your circumstances are at this moment and if the positions you are able to land are going to offer you the same things (benefits wise, maternity leave, etc) that your current position already does.
I hope that makes sense - Good luck on what ever you decide to do!
