Help! Rolling over in bed and screaming!

My LO is 5 1/2 months and just started rolling over in her bed.  I know that it's safe once she does it herself, but I'm not what sure to do since she hates it.  We use the CIO method and she usually sleeps through the night.  She just rolled over 4 times in less then 10 minutes and started screaming each time.  I went and rolled her back over each time and she was happy of course until the next time she rolled over again.  My question is, should I just let her CIO when she rolls over or flip her back over to make her happy?  HELP!  This might be the start of a long night!

Re: Help! Rolling over in bed and screaming!

  • CIO is used when you know everything is ok and are teaching them to self soothe, right? In this case, she's crying because she needs your help. I would not CIO in this case

  • Once they roll from back to front, it's pretty quick for them to learn to go the other way.  Try doing more tummy time over the next several days to try an expediete her learning to go the other way.  That way she will go back to her old sleep habits and every one can sleep again :)

As for what to do overnight -  If she's screaming in distress, I would assist her.  If she's just fussy, then I would hold off rescuing her.  Hopefully this won't last too long.

  • My LO did the same exact thing! The DAY she learned to crawl, that night her sleep was awful and it lasted two weeks with her getting upset every time she rolled and was uncomfortable or she rolled and it woke her. It was a LONG two weeks.

Don't let her CIO for this. She learned a new skill which puts them on super hyper alert. It will pass.
