help! Lent out diapers and now they are so gross

I lent my SIL my bg's for 18 months and they came back in really bad condition.  I kept some and lent her some and the ones we kept still look new (after 5 years of using them!)! I have bleached them in the sun 4x and bleached with bleach 2x and nothing is helping! She said her whites get dingy really fast, I am guessing it was her laundry detergent.

Anyone have any other suggestions? or are they bound to just look gross :(
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • I haven't tried it on diapers, but I used Simple Green on some really dingy kitchen towels and I couldn't believe how good they looked when they came out of the wash!  I know that at least a small amount of it is safe for CDs because I read on the Crunchy Clean detergent website that you can put 2-3 squirts into the diaper wash to boost cleaning.  I used 12 squirts on the towels in a rinse cycle and then washed as usual with Tide and they looked like new.

  • @stoneycakes, do you use crunchy clean detergent at all? My sister bought me some last week and haven't tried it yet. We've been using tide powder with great results so far (m doesn't seem to be sensitive anymore) OP, if bleach didnt work two times yet, I would quit that since its so harsh. :)

I actually haven't used it.  I bought the hard water version, but then we got the water softener going again before it arrived and it's just sitting in my laundry room.  Tide's my favorite.
  •  RLR will get out mineral buildup. That's probably your main issue if bleach isn't doing anything.
  • That really sucks. :(

I would be careful with washing them in harsh things or they might not function well, along with looking yucky. I think I would rather use ugly ones than ruin them all together.

  • Are they just dingy and not bright white? That doesn't sound gross, it just sounds like they aren't bright white. If they work and don't actually look gross I would just use them.

Well both. They had chunks of poop in the Velcro! I actually paid to have them all converted to snaps bc the Velcro was all worn out. But to me dingy is gross. I just want to spruce them up a bit. The sad thing is I bought her a bunch of used ones for super cheap and they look awesome. I should have just kept those!

  • I don't have any advice -- and the ladies seem like they have given you good advice here...

But I have to say this is my worst nightmare! I'm super generous with friends / family and take *VERY* good care of everything, so getting something back in sub par condition would make me very sad!

Because of this, I have had to learn to not lend anything that you actually "want" back! As bad as it sounds you just have to be prepared 1) incase it gets lost or destroyed 2) it wasn't taken care of well.

I hope you can get them back in good condition!

I am the same way and sadly I have learned certain people can't be lent any of my stuff. I think she took decent care of them, I just think its her water/detergent/washer. Something!
