I also posted this on the Knot... This isn't related to baby showers but to my cousin's wedding, who just posted this on FB:

"For those of you that don't know, T******* and I will be getting married on Saturday August 24th ceremony at 3:00 reception to follow at ******* lodge if need anymore info please contact us thanks hope to see ya then."
How tacky is that???

  • Tacky is as tacky does.

     Anniversary
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.

  • I almost feel as if it's not tacky, just ulta-casual. If you want your wedding to be more of a frat party, why bother sending out invitations?
  • And I bet she'll be one of those people butt hurt and confused if few show.

  • I had a friend post her wedding the same way.  Then on a weekly basis she kept reminding everyone to head to her facebook event page to RSVP for the wedding. I found it completely tacky and weird!

  • I like receiving nice invitations in the mailbox.  I hope Facebook and the like doesn't completely take over how we communicate with one another.  It's already happening, to be sure, but getting personal mail still rocks!

  • This is what I don't get, weddings are expensive, why would you be inviting everyone you have ever met?  I mean if her intentions are to receive a lot of gifts, wouldn't it just be a wash with what it costs to have the person attend?  Or I am missing something?
  • Perhaps this is a pot luck reception and all 450 guest are suppose to bring their own take out, plate, fork, cash gift....

Agreed. FB invites are fine for things like birthday parties or backyard cookouts (if all invited typically operate that way), but not for showers or weddings.

I guess if you're doing a super budget wedding, it could be okay. Like, you could make a ton of pasta for cheap and have a few cheap kegs, and come out ahead.

I really have no idea what happened with all the guests, but I did see pictures she posted on FB. Everyone in jeans and t-shirts... I assume there was no food provided... I don't know, I don't talk to her, I am only in touch with these cousins because of Facebook... Otherwise, I don't socialize with them!
