I didn't read any books. I just took him to Walmart, bought the small potty and also the one that goes on our toilet and put him in nothing but underwear for 3 days. The very first time I took him to pee, he went in his potty. He had a few accidents over the next few days but he cought on very quick. And within a couple days he was potty trained. I didn't do pull ups at all except at night. He was potty trained at like 2 yrs 2 months. I wasn't going to force it or push him but he pretty much did it own his own when I put the underwear on him. Good luck!!
What have you been doing? 3-day PTing method? Taking LO to potty every half hour/hour?
I've pretty much been taking him to the potty every hour like we did when I worked at a daycare. Every time I sit him on it though he yells for his diaper. I've tried pull-ups temp changers, regular underwear with the rubber pants things over them. This summer I tried this naked method I read about where you set potty's up and when you see them going you put them on the potty (Did that in the fenced in backyard. He will literally hold it until your put underwear, pull-up whatever on him, then go
Is he showing signs of being ready? My DD would tell me if she was peeing in her diaper, try to poop in private, use the potty ONLY to show off to grandparents.. I tried the 3 day method once before she was 3 but she was not ready. This time she was 3.5 and I told her the diaper fairy was coming so we had to leave out all the diapers so the DF could give them to babies who need them, and she would bring DD presents (just a couple small toys) and special pull-ups just for bedtime. Worked like a charm. Basically cold turkey. The first day was a little rough but she never looked back. We also used a sticker chart to keep up her motivation.
ETA: the DF also brought underwear of course. Also, we wouldn't keep her naked.. Just took up any rugs we could and put her in undies and pants. It worked better IMO than her being naked.. If they have an accident it's more uncomfortable if they're fully clothed, so they start to associate the feeling of having to pee with what it feels like to be wet all over. Buy cheap undies, if a poop accident happens just trash them. And don't give too many reminders.. I feel like they get annoyed by it and are slower to independently realize when they have to go.
we basically just switched straight up to underwear and went to the bathroom very often. he picked up veryyy quickly, he hated the feeling of pee in his underwear. however, he was READY for this, you can't push it.
We started potty training DD in april and she did really well at first. But then regressed tremendously. And I don't believe in using pullups, for us that is. What helped is having a sticker chart. When she went in the potty she got a sticker. When she went a day with no accidents she got a bug sticker, which was a 3d pop up special kind. Her prize when she kept earning bug stickers is an elmo party and a bike. And she really wants a bike bc all her cousins have one they can ride. I did not read any books. I just talked with other moms who had success. Oh and once she got pee in potty down we still had issue with poop. So her treat for pooping in potty was 'soda'. Not actually soda, but flavored sparkling water that she thinks is soda. That helped a ton too.
