How is it possible...

That people who have had kids can be so clueless with babies? My in laws are great for the most part, but you would never guess my MIL had 2 children. We were having dinner last night and she offered to hold DS so I could eat (he was sleeping on my chest). It was a nice gesture, except her idea of "holding" is to let him lay on her lap on top of a folded quilt. I might as well have just set him on the couch. She then wonders why he startles easily when she's holding him. I try to nicely point out if he felt supported he would probably feel more secure. Needless to say he wakes up before I can finish eating and her method to "soothe him" is to say "you're ok" and awkwardly pat him. Doesn't pick him up or anything, just lets him lay there. I just don't get how people who have had babies can be so incompetent. The only time she tried to change a diaper she didn't know the back from the front. And they of course can't wait to babysit.

Re: How is it possible...

  • I could've written this exact post! Crazy! I'd hold off on letting her babysit ;)

  •  I feel ya! I LOVE my gramma, but when she came over yesterday she kind of drove me bonkers. When DS would cry, she would mimic him. AAAAARGH!!! I can't stand that! Then, I let her feed him, and it was "Are you sure there's nothing wrong with his sinuses?" Yes, I'm sure. "Are you sure this nipple isn't too fast?" Yes, I'm sure. "Are you sure he needs to eat all of this?" Yes, I'm sure. "Well Asher, I'm sorry, but mean old mommy says I have to make you eat all of this!" Rinse and repeat. Between her and my mother thinking that every pop, squeak and whistle is Prompt Care worthy, you'd never know we have 7 kids between us!

I will say she was excellent at getting him to burp though.
