Showing or just gaining weight?

Last night I couldn't find anything to wear that didn't make me look like I have a bump!  For the last few weeks I told myself I was just bloated, but last night even a close friend told me in the nicest way possible that I looked pregnant in the dress I was wearing.  I'm only 9 weeks... so still hiding from most people and worried I might be gaining weight too fast.  I don't have a scale so I'm not sure how much I've gained.  What do you think is it possible to have a belly already?

Re: Showing or just gaining weight?

  • Totally lacking in snark: have you managed to poop lately? If you're suffering from the lovely pregnancy constipation it can create more of a pooch in addition to the bloat and weight gain (if you've gained). If this isn't your first kid you might be showing a little but your uterus is still too small to make much of an impression.

  • Is this your second pregnancy or first? If its your first, then I'm not so sure you could be showing yet. But if its your second... It's my second and I'm definitely showing a little bit. Doesn't help that the majority of my shirts are fitted. If it was just bloat, I think it would change throughout the day (say, not so much in the morning but more so at night). Also, have you gained a whole lot of weight? My bump doesn't change--same size all day, each day, and I haven't gained weight yet.

  • I'm 11w5d so baby is the size of a lime. I'm a FTM and I don't have a bump but my bloat is starting to come and go. When I'm really bloated it almost looks like a small bump but it's not like that every day. Maybe you just had a bad bloat day? I would assume at 9 weeks, you wouldn't have an actual bump especially since your uterus is still in your pelvis.

  • I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow and am a ftm and I feel like I am starting to get a bump that is there all day but does get bigger at night cause of bloat. I have probably been the exception to the rule and have been a pooping very regularly so I know it's not that. Also my husband even said durning sexy time when I was on top that my tummy felt hard on his, I have noticed this a little way down low right above my pubic bone. I think it's starting
  • it looks like i have gained 10 pounds just in my stomach. it is not fat. bump, bloat whatever, i am considerably bigger in my stomach and it looks like a baby is growing in there. this started at 8 weeks

  • If you're a first time mom, then no, it's either bloat or gaining weight.  Your baby is the size of a green olive and your uterus is the size of a small grapefruit.

  • Thank you everyone for your responses!  I know it seems silly but I am a FTM and not sure what is normal.  I think I need to start eating healthier foods.  Whenever I feel nauseous I eat and eat and eat.
  • I will be 11 weeks tomorrow and I'm almost positive I have started showing... But then again it is my 4 th baby
  • I'll be 10w tomorrow, but I am definitely sporting a tiny bump from first thing in the AM to before bed. It is my second though so it does happen sooner.
It's tiny and only me and my his and have really noticed it, but it's there :)

  • Everyone's body is different and not everyone carries the same way. I'll be 12wks on Tuesday. I haven't gained a pound, but my belly has grown 5 inches in the past 2 weeks and never once did it go down, only gotten bigger as the days went by. I go to the bathroom on a regular basis.
  • With my first, I had a bump showing at eight weeks... so it's not impossible to be showing that early.  This is my second and in the mornings, I have a tiny bump (at eight weeks).  By time afternoon rolls around, I look and feel huge... but that's all bloat.  I feel 20 weeks pregnant in the afternoons.

  • Third baby and I am 8 weeks and I am sporting a small bump. I have a small frame and have packed away my size 3's, for now :(
  • I'm 11 weeks and bloat or not, it's still obvious. I had a flat stomach until a few weeks ago. I'm a first time mom, too. I stand a short 5'3'' and my doctor said it is completely normal to pop out between 11-14 weeks at my height/proportion. I noticed this morning it was prominent and not just me noticing.

My eating has been great, gallon of water a day, exercising, normal bowels. So you might not be crazy. Everyone's different.

I attached my 11 week photo.

Hi! Beautiful picture! Curious how you got that? Are you super creative or is there a program so you can add text to pictures.

  • I'm showing, start to finish. Second baby.  Happens differently for everyone.
  • I'm 4'10", have the most regular bowel movements I've ever had in my life, and my bump does not fluctuate in size during the day- every woman carries differently and just because it isn't "normal" to show that early for a FTM does not make it the case for everyone.
