room sharing on vacation for two LOs

hi! i'm taking my two kids on vacation in september (they will be 22-months-old and 5-months-old)  and plan to have them share a room. the condo is three bedrooms (my mom is in one, i'm in the other) plus an open living room/kitchen. i'm super scared, as they each have their own room at home, and i have no idea what to expect. younger son still wakes up around 4:30 to eat, and i often see my older son moving around on the monitor, so i would be stunned if it didn't wake him up.

any advice? experience? i could probably put the baby in my room and hope he sleeps through me reading or watching tv, or put him in the living room and then just walk by him if i run into the kitchen at night. i hope i'm worrying too much and they will both adjust and just fall back asleep, but they are both great sleepers and i'm worried i will be creating problems.

i lurk on this board more than i post but i thought i might get the best responses here. thanks so much!

  • I'd probably put the baby in the living room.

  • My kids share a room on vacation. They are 3.5 and 1.5. It takes them a bit longer to fall asleep but they do fine overall. I was really worried the first time because DD is a light sleeper but its never been an issue.

  • I would also keep the baby in my room. There is nothing worse than a tired and cranky 22 month old on vacation.
  • At 5 months the baby would go in my room. If you have house, surely you can watch TV, read an socialize in the living room?

    This.

  • Baby with me, no question.

  • We just took our girls on vacation this summer and they did fine sharing a hotel room with us (they were 3.5 and 22 months at the time). They do share a room at home though so, there's that.

Your case I would probably just put the baby in your room.

  • We just went on vacation in July and all five of us were in one room. It was fine, but DH and the girls could sleep through anything. DS waking up every 3 hours bothered no one but me. Given a choice, I would keep baby with me and let the older kid have a separate room.

  • thanks all! the living room doesn't have a tv (i still don't really understand why that is), but i think i will put them in the separate rooms, hang out in the living room and either sleep in there or sleep in the room with the baby but only go in to sleep. i can watch netflix on my computer which is better than most of what's on tv anyway. one day we will go on vacation and all sleep in one room, but for now i'll try to keep them sleeping closest to their home routine.
