High-Risk Pregnancy

Fibroid & scared

Hi ladies! It's my second post about this but I'm beginning to freak out a tad. I had my first cervical length check last week due to my LEEP and it was *perfct* according to the doctor. However, they told me my fibroid is now the size of a grapefruit. Since then I've been having horrible nightmares about losing the baby. I just can't imagine a fibroid that big at 15 weeks won't degenerate. While I'm worried about the pain, I'm terrified of preterm labor and losing the baby. I can't bring myself to plan for the baby because I'm convinced I'm jinxing myself. Any advise to help calm me down or about fibroids? I know I need to lower my stess but I'm so scared.

Re: Fibroid & scared

  • I'm 32 weeks with a 10cm fibroid. It really haven't caused any trouble. It's only been in the last few weeks I have a little pain with it.

  • I'm 21 weeks with a 12 cm fibroid. I'm worried about it, too, but the primary concern of MFM and my OB seems to be that it might cause complications with delivery (e.g. I might need a C section).  I haven't had any pain from the fibroid yet.  If your fibroid is subserosal (i.e. on the outside of the uterus), there is less chance that it will obstruct the space that the baby needs to grow - or at least that's what I've been told.  Good luck and try not to worry.
  • I'm pretty sure mine is submucosal. I've had it for years and when I got pregnant they told me it usually will grow away from the baby and make a bulge on my side (maybe it is suserosall then?), which I'd totally take if it means my baby is safe. It's only grown 2cm since getting pregnant so I'm hoping its growing very slowly. Thanks for the responses ladies. It doesn't seem many people on the forum have fibroids! Hopefully I can just continue to follow your minimum-pain, non-degeneration paths. Good luck!
  • A lot of people on the forum probably have fibroids, but doctors hardly mention it, as long as the fibroid is small. I had this same fibroid in my first pregnancy, but it was only about 3 cm, and the doctors treated it as a complete non-issue. When fibroids get big during pregnancy, the doctors start to get a little concerned, or at least that's my experience.
